What is a Bumbo Seat?

When my daughter was talking about some of the baby items that she wanted to have for when her baby is born in a few months, a Bumbo Seat came up in the conversation. She had learned about the Bumbo Seat from a friend who had purchased one for their baby. I had never heard of a Bumbo Baby Seat, so I had to play 20 questions with her to learn more about it.

A bumbo seat is a low density foam seat that conforms to the baby's shape and holds a baby upright in an upright sitting position before they are able to hold themselves up. It's designed for children as young as 3 months of age, or as soon as they can hold their head up on their own. It is also commonly called a bumbo babysitter chair.

My daughter's friend just loves the seat. Their child is perfectly content when sitting in it. My daughter is sold on the idea that the Bumbo Seat is one of the niftiest inventions in baby care.

Bumbo Seat Recall

In 2007, Bumbo issued a recall on their product to add a warning against placing your baby in the Bumbo Seat on an elevated surface. There had been multiple incidences of babies falling from tables and chairs and sustaining serious injuries.

Please, parents, never place your baby in the Bumbo Seat on an elevated surface.
