5 Reasons Why Bunk Beds With Stairs Are A Good Choice

As I'm doing research on different bunk beds and other types of beds, bunk beds with stairs seem like a great choice. Keep reading for 5 reasons why you may want to consider bunk beds with stairs over other types of bunk beds.

And I also have a couple of reasons why you may not want to consider bunk beds with stairs.

By the way, as I'm doing my research, and as I'm going through the process of redoing my daughter's room, I'm updating it on my blog. It's part information, part design experience! Oh, and there's a store too. :) In other words, there's lots of good stuff at http://www.qualitybunkbedswithstairs.com.

Reason #1 - Safety

Think about your standard bunk bed and the ladder that's thrown on there. Now, I know those ladders are probably pretty sturdy, and once your kids get used to them, they're probably pretty easy to navigate. But, wouldn't you feel better if they were going up and down steps instead?

I don't know about your kids, but mine are still quite uncoordinated at times! (I think they get that from me. LOL) But they're both very coordinated on the stairs, so I know that bunk beds with stairs would be a better option for us.

Reason #2 - Storage

All of the bunk beds with stairs that I've seen so far have had drawers right in the steps! How nice is that? There really is no wasted space on these beds.

This reason is especially important for those of you who really have very little space in your kids' room. Sometimes that little bit of extra storage can go a long way in a tight space.

Reason #3 - Sheets

I know you're thinking "Sheets? What kind of reason is that? What the heck does that mean?" Well, this one is for us moms!

I started thinking about how changing sheets on the top bunk would be such a pain in the you-know-what. And then I imagined what it would be like to change the sheets on a bed that had steps.

And can't you imagine how much easier that sheet would be to change if you got to stand or sit on a step versus either balancing on a ladder, or going completely on top of the bed?

Yea, I think this is a major bonus point for bunk beds with stairs!

Reason #4 - Night Safety

Ok, this kind of goes along with Reason #1.

Reason #1 was because climbing up and down a ladder for a young child can be a little tricky, especially if they're still somewhat uncoordinated.

And think about what it would be like for them if they had to get up in the middle of the night. Might be really hard to navigate down a ladder by themselves.

Even in the dark, steps and much easier to balance yourself and find your way down to the floor.

Reason #5 - Fun!

I think bunk beds are so much fun, and bunk beds with stairs are no exception! Can you imagine the fun your kids will have climbing to the top bunk, feeling tall and on top of the world? (I know that feeling! My brothers had bunk beds and I loved visiting their top bunk. LOL)

Think about it. A regular bed is just not as fun and exciting as a bunk bed. And when you get a bunk bed with stairs, then you add in all the other great benefits I mentioned as well.

It's a win-win situation in my book! :)

A Few Things To Think About Before Buying Bunk Beds With Stairs

Overall, I think bunk beds with stairs are a great choice for most people. However, there are a few things to think about before you purchase.

  • They're generally more expensive than your standard bunk bed. I've seen standard bunk beds in the $200-$300 range (although, they can get much higher than that!), but I haven't seen any bunk beds with stairs in that same range. The good thing is, if you have a good amount of closet space, the extra storage in the steps may be enough for you to not have to purchase a dresser. In the end, you may save money in that way.

  • If your child wakes up and comes to your room a lot at night, I definitely think it's better to have stairs versus a ladder (as mentioned in Reason #4), however, bunk beds may not be the best choice for them. It's something to consider before purchasing.

  • If your child wets the bed a lot at night, then bunk beds may not be a good choice. Think of how many times you'll have to change the sheet on that top bunk!

  • If your child is a bit of a wild sleeper, then there may be a chance that they'll fall out of the top bunk. Bunk beds have a railing on all 4 sides on top, but if your child moves around a lot, it's still possible they could fall.

These are just a few things to think about before buying bunk beds for your kids. Generally, for convenience and safety, bunk beds with stairs would be a top choice for me. (And it is as I'm seriously considering purchasing one of these.) :)
