Make Your Own Bunny Costume and Save Money!
Supplies for Your Easter Bunny Costume

White shirt, white pants - that's the base of your costume. If the weather is still cool, make it sweats.

A sheet of pink felt, a giant pom-pom, and bunny ears will complete the costume.

Starting Your Easter Bunny Costume

Find a plate (or other round object) that fits the size of your bunny-to-be's tummy.

Use the plate as a template to trace and cut a circle from the pink felt.

Embroidery thread in a slightly darker pink is an attractive way to finish the tummy.
How to Attach the Tummy
Making the bunny costume tummy.
The cut edge of felt won't fray, which is why we use it for this costume: no need for a finished edge!
I used a blanket stitch, which makes a pretty outline pattern around the pink tummy circle and is very quick and easy to do (see steps below). However, if you want something even simpler, do a simple running stitch (in-out-in-out) around the edge of the tummy circle.
A darker shade of pink complements the pink circle nicely with a pretty stitch like the blanket stitch, but if you use a running stitch it will look nicer to match the color of the pink felt more closely so that it will be less visible.
A third and even simpler way to attach the felt tummy is with fabric glue.

Blanket Stitch for Easter Bunny Tummy

Blanket Stitch, steps 1 & 2: Bring thread out at edge of circle; go back in a quarter inch from the edge.
Blanket Stitch: Step 1 & 2
Attaching the bunny costume tummy with a blanket stitch.
See picture ABOVE.
First pin the circle to the shirt on the tummy area. Don't pin the back side to the front!
1. Start from inside the t-shirt. Bring the thread out just at the edge of the circle, not catching the material of the circle.
2. Move the needle slightly to the left, and into the circle about 1/8", and insert the needle. Do NOT pull the thread tight yet!
(And don't catch the back side of the shirt with your thread, either!)

Steps 3 & 4: bring thread out at the edge again, and catch it INSIDE the loop before pulling it tight.
Steps 3 & 4 of the Blanket Stitch
See picture ABOVE.
3. Bring the thread back out, again at the edge of the circle, without catching the circle material, but IN LINE with your last stitch going into the circle.
4. Since you did not pull the previous stitch tight, there is a big loop of thread. Make sure the needle comes out in the middle of this loop. NOW pull the stitch tight.

Step 5 for blanket stitch: continue around edge.
Blanket Stitch: Final Step
See picture ABOVE.
5. As you pull the thread tight, the loop you left in the previous stitch will form an angle. As you continue around the edge of the circle, you will be outlining it in stitches.

If you run out of thread, go back IN where you just came OUT, and knot underneath. Start the new thread at the same stitch.

The whole thing takes about 10 minutes, and you have a pretty, finished bunny tummy!
Fluffy Easter Bunny Tail

Sew the pom-pom tightly. Put the thread back IN right where it came OUT, so it won't criss-cross and flatten the fluff.

When you think of Easter, what do you think about? Perhaps most importantly, you think about the Christian celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ which takes place between Good Friday and Easter Monday. Or maybe you think of The Easter Bun...

Bunny Ears
Can't we make our own bunny ears too?
Yes, you can. But, quite frankly, it is a lot of work for a result that won't look as nice as a $2 pair of ears. It involves a headband, cutting up a coat hanger, probably a little swearing, and lots of fabric glue or maybe even real sewing!
Easter Basket
Prettier Easter baskets ... for less money!

FRUGALICIOUS TIP: Instead of a cheap basket that you'll throw away, get a nice basket: after Easter, hit a second-hand store and find one that's barely used for pennies! Next, go to the craft store and find some nice, crinkly, paper grass - not that nasty plastic stuff! Find a color that complements your new basket.
Now, when Easter is over - the candy eaten and the toys broken - get a giant plastic zippered baggie and put all the paper grass into the baggie, and store it inside the basket until next year! The crinkly-cut paper grass weaves together so it is simple to lift it out as a single unit and stuff into the baggie.
