buraian's Lensography

I have a lot of interests, but the things I'm passionate about can be found here in my lenses: distance running, track and field and great athletes. I've made a few other lenses, but I'm pretty much just focused on dominating the distance running bio lens niche here at Squidoo. Because Wikipedia's great, but it's not a well-made lens!

This lensography is sure to grow, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy what you find!

Did you know? Five fun facts about buraian's lenses

Not even my mom knows this...yet

  1. buraian started making lenses in December of 2007 -- and he's already half-way to taking over the world!
  2. buraian has started the Squidoo Track and Field Headquarters, for lenses on all topics track and field!
  3. buraian's most recent lens is Men's American Records! It's got photos, videos, top ten lists, quality rankings and more!
  4. buraian's highest ranked lens is currently Kenenisa Bekele: The Best Distance Runner Ever...because it's badass.
  5. buraian has no idea which of his lenses people like the most, because very few write comments, but feel free to tell him which you like best!

Develop the mindset of a champion

Since April 2007 I've written a blog about running and developing the mindset of a champion. If you're a runner, it's definitely a site for you, but even if you're not, the underlying message of every post will apply to you as well!

You can also read my feature articles at The Runner's Tribe!

Five all-time favorite books

No's 2-6, in no particular order

Aside from The Things They Carried (see here), these are my five favorite books of all-time. I can't recommend any of them highly enough!

The Things They Carried

My all-time favorite book

Thank you so much to Pian Wong for giving me this book. I've given it to numerous people, either as a gift or a loaner, and never gotten it back in either case!

This is by far the best book I've ever read on the subject of war. It is a collection of stories, all separate yet intertwined, and the way in which the book jumps to different points in the timeline to gradually piece together the puzzle of their experiences is brilliant.

My ultimate test of a book is whether or not it has an effect on me. This book left me reeling. It made me simultaneously want to become a writer and feel completely inadequate compared to what I'd just read!

Though Tim O'Brien called this book "A Work of Fiction" (which is no doubt technically true), no book does as good a job of making you understand the truth of what it is to be at war. I highly recommend it.

Japanese designs on Cafepress!

My brother-in-law has made a couple designs on Cafepress. The first is a picture of Mt. Fuji styled after the wooden carving on the window of my wife's parents' house. The second are Japanese characters that read "architect". Yeah, he's an architect...

You can both on more than just t-shirts. He's got aprons, baby-T's, pillows, and more!

What I've been reading

Recent recommendations from an avid book reader

I read a fair amount, so I'll keep my last five books (that I liked enough to recommend!) up-to-date on this lens. If it's here, it means I think you should read it! Come back later to see what's new!

One sentence summaries:

The God Delusion: I think Richard Dawkins might be the most penetrating thinker alive today. Great book on a difficult topic.

Why Black People Tend To Shout: Wiley's essays on life as a black person in the 1980s will shake your confidence in what you think you know.

Traffic: Why We Drive The Way We Do: A fascinating look at the science and psychology of driving.

C.C. Pyle's Amazing Foot Race: A running race from L.A. to New York? How does this not get taught in our American History classes?!

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time: A fabulous book about an autistic kid who tries to solve the mystery of who killed his neighbor's dog.

Life of Buraian

I am Buraian...and this is my life...in blog form

If you made it this far down the lens, you might actually be interested in learning a little more about me. Or you may just want to know why it is I'm so commonly confused with the Messiah. Either way, here are my five most recent blog posts...
