The War that Bush Built

My lenses are generally about math and math education. This is an exception.
This is a parody of the children's poem, "The House that Jack Built."

I wrote it in 2003. I came upon it on my computer again on Hallowe'en (fitting day) 2007.

The sad thing is, basically nothing about the facts in it have changed except that thousands of American soldiers have been killed, ten thousands have been injured, and hundreds of thousands kept in a war that most of them don't support in a country that almost none of them (nor any other Americans) could find on a map before they were deployed.

And hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Iraq have been killed, over a million displaced, and many of them turned into enemies that we didn't have before Cheney/Bush decided to mislead the greatest nation in the world into its most misguided effort since slavery and the genocide of Native Americans.

What else hasn't changed? Bush still hasn't "smoked out" Osama Bin Laden (remember him?)

What are we becoming? How did we allow it? How did "Patriotism" get co-opted by chickenhawks like Bush and Cheney?

This is The War that Bush Built

(Originally "This is The War that Shrub Built")

This is the war that Bush built

    This is the lie
That lay in the war that Bush built.

    This is the dummy
    That bought the lie
That lay in the war that Bush built.

    This is the Rummy
    That conned the dummy
    That bought the lie
That lay in the war that Bush built.

    This is the dogma
    That drove the Rummy
    That conned the dummy
    That bought the lie
That lay in the war that Bush built.

This is the Powell that tossed in the towel
    And bent to the dogma
    That drove the Rummy
    That conned the dummy
    That bought the lie
That lay in the war that Bush built.

This is the U.N. showing disdain
Towards the Powell that tossed in the towel
    And bent to the dogma
    That drove the Rummy
    That conned the dummy
    That bought the lie
That lay in the war that Bush built.

This is the inspector whose work is inane
Reporting to the U.N showing disdain
Towards the Powell that tossed in the towel
    And bent to the dogma
    That drove the Rummy
    That conned the dummy
    That bought the lie
That lay in the war that Bush built.

This is the country of Saddam Hussein
That fooled the inspector, whose work is inane
Reporting to the U.N. showing disdain
Towards the Powell, who tossed in the towel
    And bent to the dogma
    That drove the Rummy
    That conned the dummy
    To buy the lie
That lay in the war that Bush built.

This is the administration, cruel and insane,
That bombed the country of Saddam Hussein
That fooled the inspector, whose work is inane
Reporting to the U.N. showing disdain
Towards the Powell, who tossed in the towel
    And bent to the dogma
    That drove the Rummy
    That conned the dummy
    To buy the lie
That lay in the war that Bush built.

This is the Bin Laden, really to blame
That tricked the administration, cruel and insane,
Into bombing the country of Saddam Hussein
That fooled the inspector, whose work is inane
Reporting to the U.N. showing disdain
Towards the Powell, who tossed in the towel
    And bent to the dogma
    That drove the Rummy
    That conned the dummy
    To buy the lie
That lay in the war that Bush built.

An Informed Citizenry...

In his letter to Dr. Price of 8 January, 1789, Thomas Jefferson wrote:
" ... whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government; that, whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they may be relied on to set them to rights"
