What, Exactly, Is a Facebook Business Page?

An introduction to Facebook Pages for business.

Example of Facebook Business Page - PhotographyIf you're already on Facebook connecting with family and friends, you're probably doing so using a Facebook Profile, not a Business Page. Officially, Facebook says its Pages are:

A free product for organizations and public figures to connect with people on Facebook in an official, public manner. Create a presence that looks and behaves like user profiles to connect and engage with your customers and amplify your voice to their friends.

Simply put, Facebook Pages are a free online tool that enable businesses to connect with their customers where they're at. Business Pages allow you to share your marketing message, communicate with customers or "fans", run promotions, share updates and information about your business, and even sell stuff.

  6. If you have a blog, import your posts to generate fresh content.
  7. Enable posts to display from Page and fans to show interaction.
  8. Encourage fans to add content (makes them feel part of your brand and promotes your Page).

Facebook Business Page Duel

While there are no shortage of advocates on the web for creating and maintaining Facebook Pages for your business, many are still skeptical of the value. What do you think, and why?

Are Facebook Business Pages worth the time and effort?

Yes, they engage my customers and increase my brand's awareness!

candees says:

Yes! Creating a Facebook Business Page doesn't cost a penny and can be a great way for small businesses, freelancers, and entrepreneurs to promote their brand online. Word to the wise: Develop a strategy upfront, create a daily time schedule for maintaining your Page, and measure ROI to see how it's working for you!

No way! They're a passing fad and I'd rather not waste my time.

daybreak says:

Facebook has some BIG problems, specifically:

They lack a friendly process to create business pages without connecting it to a personal account

They currently lack a way to transfer a business page from one account to another, which was a huge and inexcusable blunder.

Sitewide security problems make the site too difficult and risky for casual users.

I say they are not a good place to do business yet.

It would appear that FB COULD go the way of Myspace, collapsing as people jump to the whatever online toy comes along next.

I think what happens depends on whether there is a culture change in the way FB does business, especially concerning privacy and ownership of information.
