Business Has Its Sharks, Too!

Swimming With the Business Sharks

Most reality shows have nothing to do with reality. No one is really going to starve or drown on The Survivor and Tory and Dean aren't really have those fights in front of the camera.

But there is a class of reality show that has reality to it. The stars on Dancing With the Stars really do learn those dances and get judged and then voted on. I have never seen American Idol, but I am sure that that happens there.

Shark Tank, however, seems to be all real. Entrepreneurs get 5 minutes to sell their idea to 5 multi-million to billionaires. They ask for an amount of money for a certain percentage of their companies.

Then the sweating starts as the Sharks start asking the tough financial, production and marketing questions. And there are no holds barred here. Its really scary, frankly.

Some people get no offers, some get one and then have to negotiate and make a decision on the spot, others start a bidding war and they have to make a decision on the spot. And of course, the problem is that even if you get an offer or multiple ones, you really don't know if these business sharks are helping or biting you.

But the deals are real and made on the spot. Wow! THIS is real.

I Think These Guys Made a Mistake!

Barbara wanted a larger percentage than they came in for, but she was going to hook them up with the King of "As Seen on TV" They I think they were really dumb to turn that one down!

What Happen Afterwards

Yes, these deals are real, but it is not magic, still a lot to do after its over.

Listen to this tape. They talk about all the entrepreneurs are looking for bank loans and can't get them.

I thought we bailed out the banks so they could put the money back into the economy.

The Shark Tank is an interesting program. As the owner of a couple of businesses myself, I think it would be a great opportunity to appear before the judges and pitch my business idea. It always surprises me when guests to the show, when presenting with such an enormous opportunity, are so little prepared and don't make a good case for themselves. You would think that they could try harder with such big numbers at stake.
