Business Blogs Worth Reading & Commenting On
I'm a big fan of reading and commenting on other blogs as a way to network online with an eye toward building readership for your own blog. While blogs on technology and politics abound, it's tough to find good business blogs; especially ones with a large enough readership to expect that your target audiences might actually be reading them.
It's been my experience that the best place to find business blogs is not the blog directories but the websites of major newspapers and magazines. It makes sense. We've all heard the stories about how circulation numbers are down. I can't think of a better way to stay relevant. Not only are newspapers and magazines finding and reporting the news, they are using blogs to enable readers to create more content by participating in the process.
So, with this in mind, I've started compiling the following list of good business blogs my coaching and consulting clients can reasonably hope their target audiences are reading.
Got a suggestion for this list? I'm all ears.
Business Blogs
- Notions on High and Low Finance
- New York Times reporter and columnist Floyd Norris. Mr. Norris was a helpful source for other blogs on this list.
- Managing Globalization
- A great blog on issues related to Globalization with top-notch contributors.
- The Big Picture
- This blog covers topics from the Markets, the Economy, the Federal Reserve, Housing, Energy and Technical Media and covers them well. Does this guy sleep?
- White Collar Crime Blog
- The name might make this blog sound sensationalistic but it's not. It's an insightful and respectful study on white collar crime from a legal perspective.
- Washington Post - Small Business Blog
- This blog focuses on small business in the Washington D.C. area but coaches and consultants who aren't location specific can learn a lot.
- Jeff Matthews Is Not Making This Up
- I love this blog. It's one of the very few I've read where every post is worth reading.
- Shifting Careers
- The New York Times is leading the way in blogging and this blog is an excellent example of a topic that can boring in other hands but is consistently interesting with Marci Alboher's guidance.

Magazine Blogs
- Entrepreneur Magazine Blog
- Covers topics far and wide related to business and technology. It will require some sifting to find appropriate topics to comment on but the audience size might make it worth the effort.
- Fast Company Blog
- I rarely find their blog topics of immediate interest but their blog roll is definitely worth scrutinizing.
