Brand New Article: Leverage You Can Apply in Your Business Today
Here is an excerpt from the article. Want more? Visit BusinessisPeople.com
When discussing leverage for your company, it can be thought of in two forms: long-term and short-term. Long-term leverage could be partnering with another company, licensing a product or franchising. Those types of things are done for the long-term, not in the short-term. Short-term leverage are things that can be done today or near future, designed to save you money in the long run. This article will discuss short-term leverage.
People often have one of two views about materialistic things such as cars, computers, furniture, etc. These things are in the low range, relatively speaking, as far as being able to own them. Some people must own things, they want to own their car, their home, their boat, and they want it in their name to prove that it is theirs. Other people do not worry about owning materialistic things, but use leverage to be able to enjoy those same things, often times enjoying vehicles and other toys that are much more expensive than the people who own a vehicle. What does this have to do with business?
This mindset often carries over into the business-setting. When starting up a company, partners may use a portion of their start-up capital to purchase outright computers, printers, to stock up on paper, and a company vehicle. What they are missing is that they have just purchased a lot of depreciating liabilities that the company will then have to maintain. They have no leverage.

The Law of "Dharma"
Everyone has a purpose in life...a unique gift or special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.

Having Doubts About The Service Industry?
The service industry is made up of a variety of different fields. From graphic designers to all sorts of doctors, to lawyers, landscapers, pool cleaners, etc. Basically, anything you can do for another individual or company can become a service-based company. This is great! Yet, it also makes it that much more confusing as to how to separate yourself from your competition. When people think of services, they tend to think first in price and second in satisfaction of that service.
There are many misconceptions about the service industry which hinder people who start their own company within this type of industry. You may have thought about them or are thinking about them and want answers as to how to avoid them or step beyond them altogether.

Common Misconceptions
You may have these types of common misconceptions about the service industry. They may sound something like these:
"Technical skills will get you your next contract, don't worry about the business side of things."

What Does It Really Take To Succeed?
If you are like most service professionals, you may have realized that the people who earn substantially more than you, an employee, are the business owners. Have you ever thought about becoming a business owner yourself? It can be daunting, yet within the service industry, many, many professionals head out on their own to make it big.
Yet many fail. So what does it really take to succeed?
It takes a deeper understanding of people. What does that mean? By learning about the psychology of people, you can start to get a better grasp of how people think and why they may choose you over your competition. This directly applies within the service industry.

What Is Your Company's Value Proposition?
What do you offer that your competitiors do not?
So, just what is your company's value proposition? I have heard from many service professionals that they are separated by their "superior service" over their competitors. This is too subjective for a strong, clear, value proposition. Superior service would be based on a client's personal experience in their interaction with the firm. If the firm kept track and offered testimonials as their proof of superior service, that would be one thing. And as a rule of thumb, you should have a record of testimonials for your marketing campaigns.
However, that does not get you off the hook of offering "superior service." No, you really need to think and understand, firstly, why you went out on your own. What drives you to get up each morning and work passionately to make a difference in the lives of your clients and the world? This is what must drive your company, drive your employees, be grounded in everything you do. This represents who your company is, what it stands for, why it is in existence, and why clients should come running to you, instead of you going out to search for them.

Where to Start
What is my first step?
A great place to start is to first just think. Think about yourself, what interests you, what you want your company to look like, how you want people to perceive it, and so on and so on. Then as you start to become aware of trends in your thoughts, write down these ideas. They may be trigger words, phrases, whatever you want to remind you. The key is to be quick. Get down as many ideas as you can. Then you should start to pull them together, like stacking Lego bricks one on top of the other to shape the company you want to promote.
This can be an overwhelming process. It is a continuous process as a business should continue to evolve over time throughout its lifetime. If you feel stuck, or need something kick start your brainstorming, check out these articles.
