DON"T PAY RETAIL
when you can pay up to half off!
Why getting a business license saves you cash!
One day I was shopping for beads and I heard the cashier ask a customer if she had a business license. When the customer said "yes" the cashier proceeded to give her a 50% discount.
What! Half Off, I thought. After the customer left I inquired with the shop keeper "How can I get half off?" She told me a lot of her customers re sell there work at craftshows and have business licences. Just go down to city hall and apply for one. Man, was I excited.
It was easy. I paid the town fee and got my license in the mail within a few days.
Now my favorite beadshops give me anywhere from 15% to 50% off. I also found a few online suppliers that sell wholesale.
I do have to file taxes. It is easy. I save all my receipts, record my mileage to and from the beadshops, craftshows, post office if I am mailing one of my items.
Turbo Tax for small businesses makes filing very easy. It answers all my tax questions.
So, run, don't walk to your town hall and start saving on your supplies!

About the Author
Meg Mateo Ilasco is a designer, writer, and illustrator based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was in grad school when she started designing wedding invitations for extra money, but the demand for her distinctive designs was so great that she eventually made the business full-time. Her company then expanded into stationery and accessories, and was featured on NBC's Today and in publications such as The Knot and Islands: Weddings and Honeymoons. She has since sold that business and is launching an eponymous housewares and gift company, Mateo Ilasco (www.mateoilasco.com).
