Business Improvement
How does your business improve?
- One business owner I have worked with wanted to improve their business by finding a new way to track their revenue and expenses in a timely manner.
For another they wanted to use a marketing system to help generate qualified prospects for their niche product.
Another wanted to modify their production process to create a better product.
Recent development in software now allow businesses to represent what they do from more than one view so as to create a workable model of the current and future states.

Past, Present and Future
Measured steps towards a new vision
From the model of each state you may find steps to make your future a reality and create meaningful measures to help monitor your progress.
Monitoring change based on predefined measures, may help determine if you are getting closer to your desired result or highlight if you are not getting closer and need to make adjustments.
An analogy
Applying Turn-Key Business Modelling terms to throwing a dart
By standing at the throw line in the same position as before and knowing the result of their last throw, a player can improve hitting the Bulls-eye by adjusting key elements of their throw e.g. their arm position, the aim of their dart and/or force of the throw.
Once the dart has been thrown, the results can be measured from the landing position of the dart on the dartboard. Hopefully, getting closer to the Bulls-eye.
Applying part of the Turn-Key Business Model to this analogy of throwing a dart, one can ask
- What do relevant aspects of your current business look like? Similar to understanding where the dart is relative to the Bulls-eye, throw line and arm position.
- What do relevant parts of your future business look like? Similar to the dart being on the Bulls-eye with the current throw line and arm position.
- What areas affect these parts of your business? Similar to the key elements such as the arm position, the aim of the dart and/or force of the throw.
- How do you measure your success in changes you apply? Similar to measurimg the darts position when it lands on the board.

Hello Vicki, Posted August 22, 2008 |
I have used this TKO software and found it amazing. I also know of a guy who wanted to sell his business and used the TKO software to map the business and print a very impressive manual to issue to prospective buyers. The software and process of mapping the business brought to light some areas of inefficiency, duplication and resource issues and it was much easier to make adjustments. In the end, the guy decided that with those adjustments, the business was worth holding on to. This was about three years ago, and I don't know whether he has sold it or not. All I know is that if I was looking to buy a business I would feel much more inclinded and confident in buying a business which had its structure, resources, personnel roles, policies, procedures and other vital information. There would just be less 'unknowns'.
