What's Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is a special kind of therapy that uses essential oils and aromatic compounds from plants in order to improve moods, cognitive function and health. Aromatherapy can also be used for treatment and prevention of disease. The scent of the oils activates the limbic system and emotional centers of the brain. By applying massage oils to the skin, they activate thermal receptors as well as kill microbes and fungi. It's not surprising to learn that many essential oils are used in perfumes.  

Just a Few of The Popular uses:

Basil is used for sharpening sexual concentration, for its uplifting effect on depression, and to relieve headaches and migraines.

Black pepper has a sharp and spicy aroma. Common uses include stimulating the circulation and for muscular aches and pains. Skin application is useful for bruises, since it stimulates the circulation.  

Cinnamon - invigorates and warms the senses, and may even produce a feeling of joy.

Eucalyptus oil is often used in combination with peppermint to provide relief for the airways in case of cold or flu.  

Frankincense is said to relieve stress and anxiety.

Jasmine is used as an aphrodisiac.

Lavender oil is used as an antiseptic, to soothe minor cuts and burns, to calm and relax, for insomnia and to soothe
headaches and migraines.

Lemon oil is uplifting and anti-stress/anti-depressant. Lemon oil - may enhance one's mood, and help with relaxation.  

Orange has the ability to affect moods and to lower high blood pressure.

Patchouli is used as an aphrodisiac

Rose is used as an aphrodisiac.

Sandalwood oil is used as an aphrodisiac.  

Tangerine oil is cheering and uplifting.

If the stress of the day has you tense and unable to relax, light some aromatherapy candles and sooth your senses and relax and body.
