Going Green Made Easy
Ranked #4,512 in Healthy Living, #80,347 overall
Be The Change You Want to See in The World
Mahatma Gandhi said it all. We must be the change we want to see in our world or we shall lose all that is precious to us. We want our children and our grandchildren to inherit a world worth living in, thus, we must make a change for the better.
Going Green in any way we can, will only make our world a better place for us to live in and for our children and their children to grow up in.
What is Green Living All About Anyway?
Teach Your Children so They Can Teach Their Children

When you hear the term "green living", you may get an image in your head of hippies living in communes making everything they use. Truth is: the definition of green living has changed. The concept simply includes doing things to help the environment be viable for future generations. If you don't feel like shedding your worldly possessions and living in a mud hut, here are a few steps you can take you make your life a little greener.
Buy local organic products. Organic farmers not only use little to no chemicals, they also take steps to reduce water and soil degradation, along with other problems caused by traditional agriculture. Veggies from groceries stores have usually been shipped a long way, which causes environmental pollution. Buy your produce from a local farmer's market or coop. If you can't find one, start your own organic garden.
Use natural products. Household products that don't contain chemicals are not only better for the environment; they're safer for your family as well. You can make various cleaning products from stuff in your kitchen, like vinegar. If you don't have the time, there are products you can buy. Just make sure they're all natural and don't just have a few natural ingredients.
Reduce. We've all heard the spiel about reduce, reuse, recycle; however, most of us focus on recycling and completely ignore the reducing. Try to use products that don't end up in landfills like cloth diapers instead of disposables or regular towels instead of paper ones. Another great idea is to buy concentrated products because they come in smaller packages.
Reuse. Many people have gotten in the habit of sending their recyclables away in the bins, but there's more supply than demand in the recycling market. That's why it's also important to reuse items if you can. Before you throw something in the recycling bin, consider whether you could reuse it for something else.
Recycle. We should all have a recycle bin in our homes, but you can do stuff to recycle on your own. Instead of using potting soil in your garden, set up a compost pile and make your own rich soils. You can also use products like shredded plastic bags to mulch your garden. If you get creative, there's lots of recycling you can do on your own.
Conserve Energy. There are so many things you can do to save energy. The big plus on this is that it also saves you money. Get low energy light bulbs for your fixtures. You could also take more drastic renovation steps by getting new energy efficient windows or installing solar panels. Even small steps like setting the thermostat a degree higher or lower can make a big difference. A big way to conserve energy is to get a more fuel efficient car, or get rid of your car altogether. If you don't need a big SUV, then don't get one. You'll be doing the environment a big favor.
Teach your children. You might not be able to change the world on your own, but you can start a trend my teaching others to be more environmentally friendly, starting with your kids. Make sure your children know what steps you take to improve the environment and why.
A Case for Alternative Energy
The evolution of renewable energy has been moving at a rapid pace. This is because the need is getting imperative. New and stimulating, alternative energy sources are being produced by research companies and individuals both nationally and internationally. Politicians are making pacts and drafting rules to make better use of these new energy sources. Many of these methods are working great but for massive use, but there must be improvement in alternative energy sources efficiency.This is the first problem. It is getting harder to recover the fossil fuels that are running out at a fast pace. If not prudent, today the outcome will be an energy crisis for our children. Many individuals and even countries will not be able to afford energy because of rising costs. The answer to this is alternative energy and the need to bring them to their maximum possibilities. The good thing is that is happening at this time.
The second issue is the widely used fossil fuels such as gas and oil is damaging the environment. There were people from the scientific community that in the 70's and 80's who were very adamant that there was no effect on the environment, but the detrimental effects are showing today. Among those detrimental effects is the warming of the earth due to a thinning of the ozone layer. Another effect is the changing of climates. Some places in the world there is more rain, more sunshine, and in parts that are dry are becoming even dryer. These two events, climate changes and the degrading of the ozone go hand in hand with each other and make it imperative we take action now. That action is alternative energy.
The growth of small economies is another issue. Smaller countries are suffering even more then their larger counter parts, because of the escalating crude oil prices. Countries need the crude oil for transportation and electricity and without it they are placed in a severe disadvantage economically. This negative effect is passed down to families with higher electricity costs, higher essential products cost because of higher transportation costs.
Alternative energy is a solution for all of the above difficulties. We have free to use and large amounts of energy sources. We can convert sunlight, water, wind, and hot springs into energy. We do need to remember these alternative sources need to be properly converted. We do not want to create other problems and the good thing is the actions of individuals and companies have shown we can.

Is There Really A Problem With Global Warming?
Eat Organic Food
And Help The Planet

When most people hear the term "organic", they think of decreased chemical use. In reality, organic agricultural production involves so much more than that. Organic agriculture is a fairly strict form of sustainable agriculture; a way of producing food products without harming the land. Its main goal is to work the land without preventing future generations from being able to use it as well. By buying organic products, you're not only feeding your family safer food and preventing hazardous chemicals from entering the environment; you're also protecting future generations.
One goal of sustainable agriculture is to conserve natural resources such as water. Water is conserved by growing plants that are suitable to the local environment. Instead of irrigating dry areas, sustainable farmers simply grow crops more suited to a dry environment. Many traditional farmers choose to irrigate because crops that require more water tend to sell for a higher value. Sustainable producers also conserve water by taking measures to prevent runoff. This keeps the water where it falls and where gets the most use.
Along with water, organic producers also take measures to conserve soil. This may seem silly because dirt is everywhere, but when crops are taken care of properly, the soil is their means of life. It contains beneficial organisms and nutrients, and has the correct conditions for good growth. When the ground is overworked or overgrazed by cattle, the soil washes away, and chemicals must be used to make it right again. The soil that washes away also ends up in lakes, rivers, water supplies, and other areas where it can be more of a problem than a benefit.
Organic farmers also conserve energy by using less fossil fuels. This also cuts down on environmental pollution. As I already said, these producers work the land less. Since traditional farm equipment requires gasoline, using this equipment less means cutting back on fossil fuel usage. Most organic producers also choose to sell their products locally. This means that the products don't have to ship as far and even less fuel is consumed. If more farmers took these steps, it could drastically cut down on the amount of carbon pollution there is in the atmosphere.
When you see an organic farm, it is probably not a large sprawling acreage. By buying organic products, you are supporting small family farms instead of large faceless corporations. And while organic products may cost more, they don't include hidden and sometimes immeasurable costs like cleaning up chemical pollutants. This promotes an honest economy.
Conventional farming is non-sustainable. By definition this means we can't keep doing it forever. Eventually we will destroy the soil quality, use up all the water supplies, or do something else to halt traditional farming. With the growing world population, more and more food products will be needed in the near future. By using organic agriculture, we are encouraging less advanced cultures to do so as well, preventing further degradation of the environment.
While it may not seem like a lot, each person helps. By buying organic products, and encouraging others to do so as well, you are taking a small dent out of the problems traditional agriculture is causing. You are also helping to send a message to traditional producers that some of their methods are unethical and unacceptable.

DIY Alternative Energy Kits
To construct and install an alternative energy source yourself you do need three things:
1. You need to decide on a good location.
2. Blue prints and or a instructional video is required.
3. The correct tools for proper assembly and installation are necessary.
To be sure, your source of a alternative energy source kit is reputable; all parts that are required should be included along with blueprints. Your budget for the project should be between $200 and $600 dollars. There are however some bargains that you may find on the internet or other places and you could be fortunate enough to find a DIY kit for $50 dollars or less. Provided they meet the above criteria, they could be of excellent quality and well worth the money.
Today's energy crisis and dwindling natural resources is creating more questions about our future every day. A duel fuel DIY alternative energy source kit can address some of those questions. The reason for this is you will not only save from the production of your own energy, but you can also sell any excess that you produced back to the energy companies. It will be a nice change when they are paying you, instead of you paying a monthly bill. Therefore, as you are contemplating a DIY alternative energy source kit , you may want to consider a duel fuel system instead of a single fuel system since the potential savings are substantially better.
Now there is a downside to choosing a DIY duel fuel system. The initial investment would be greater and the timeframe for the construction and assembly is longer. However if you take a look at the long term effects and the difference in savings, the advantages outweigh the downside considerably.
Now that you have seen that it does not take an engineer degree to build your own alternative energy source, you can start seriously thinking and planning to get a DIY alternative energy kit. By doing so you are not only helping yourself with energy savings but you are helping to save the environment for future generations.
Green Cleaning

There are several reasons why one might want to use more natural and green cleaners to tidy up their home. Conventional cleaners might be effective in cutting through dirt and grime but they do so at the expense of our health and the environment. Many people use cleaning products with very little prior thought or concern. The widespread availability and use of conventional products indicates to them that they must be relatively safe for use. But these cleaners contain many chemicals that can be toxic, reactive, corrosive, or flammable. There is also the potential that they can cause serious health issues and environmental damage. Just ask yourself if you really need to clean your home with ingredients like these:
* Formaldehyde
* Hydrochloric Acid
* Petroleum
Not only do ingredients like these and the hundreds of other potentially toxic ingredients used in mainstream cleaners have the potential to cause physical harm, they can do environmental harm as well. Each day millions of pounds of household cleaning products are carelessly poured down drains. Many of these toxic substances are NOT able to be processed adequately by sewage treatment plants or septic systems and contamination of surface and ground water can occur. Fish and other wildlife might also be negatively impacted.
It is for all these reasons that green families everywhere are choosing to use cleaners made with natural ingredients that do not endanger their children or the planet. Natural ingredients can be just as effective as harsh conventional cleaners but without the negative side effects. Some of the favored natural cleaning ingredients are below.
* Vinegar is a natural all purpose cleaner. It also disinfects and deodorizes. It kills 99 percent of bacteria, 82 percent of mold, and 80 percent of germs and viruses.
* Pure castile soap is a basic cleaner that works wonders. Why do you need fancy cleaners when good old soap and water so good?
* Lemons can be used to make your own cleaning pastes when you add baking soda and vinegar. They dissolve soap scum and hard water deposits and they shine brass and copper. Since they smell so divine they can also be used to deodorize. For instance, grinding some lemon peels in the garbage disposal takes care of odors beautifully.
* Vegetable oils can be used as a furniture polish to hydrate and shine your wood furniture.
* Baking Soda is one of the more preferred and versatile natural cleaners. It deodorizes, it scrubs surfaces, and it can be used to make liquid pastes. Add a few drops of essential oil to baking soda and you have a scented toilet and tub scrub.
Making your own cleaning supplies with natural ingredients is easy and safe but if you don't have the time or inclination to do that there are also a growing number of green cleaners available at health food stores and online. There is just no reason why you can't clean with green power in your own home.

- Love the lens! I have set up 2 solar cells that my family will start to use this spring for hot water. We will have free hot water for the most part of the year, and it is a household with 7 people :) Also, we grow most of our vegetables, and most of the grains for our hens and ducks. It requires some work, but it is very rewarding, and I now that my child eat really healthy food, free of chemicals as possible.

- Not only do we need to Go Green we especially need to reduce the number of chemicals in our environment; breathing perfumes, air fresheners and other things is very very bad for your lungs. Many of them cause me immediate respiratory distress; I have narrowly avoided a trip to the ER a few times because of this. Everything in my house is all natural AND unscented.
