Weber 441001 18.5-Inch One Touch Silver Kettle Grill, Black

Instant BBQ. One touch cleaning. The ability to stock one up in the boot of your car for spur of the moment tailgating or as part of a elaborate survival kit. Available in two sizes 22.5 inches and 18.5 inches in diameter the Weber One Touch kettle grill is a portable marvel that brings over enough features from larger Weber grills that you wonder whether the chicken came first or the egg.

Unless you are a Weber old-timer you probably didn't get that one, well, the kettle grill has been one of the most famous Weber's designs to ever be released and was first seen in the early 1980s. It is said that this grill design is the inspiration behind every Weber grill that you see today even the behemoth Spirit and Genesis models.

Newbie or rookie %u2013 everyone's invited

The One Touch silver kettle grill is considered to be the most forgiving of all charcoal grills while still being efficient and spacious enough to satisfy the professional griller in you. Like the company says, this is a no-nonsense grill presented in a time-tested package that not only makes a statement when it comes to aesthetics but is also one of the most efficient designs that Weber has ever produced. The way in which the kettle shaped allows the grill to retain heat for longer and the fact that it is insulated on the outside helps as well. The time-tested design of the kettle grill radiates heat evenly across the entire cooking surface of the grill which means that you don't have any hotspots or sudden flares. Controlling the flame and the heat is half the battle and Weber has already won it for you.

Works as well in an apartment balcony as in your backyard

While there are two models available, I think the 18 1/2 inch model makes a lot of sense because it can be used both as a portable grill and as a permanent installation grill in your backyard owing to a small footprint. The best thing about the 18.5 inch Weber 441001 Silver Kettle grill is that it can also fit in an apartment balcony and can be rolled out later if you don't need it any more.

The Weber One Touch lets you focus on the good stuff %u2013 Ash Catcher Pan

While this may sound like a blanket statement, we need to realize that Weber has really gone ahead and cut down on the things that you would need to do when it comes to grilling and barbecuing on charcoal. Don't let that says the hard-core griller a new since the only thing Weber has made simpler is cleaning up the grill and collecting the ash.

The ash catcher pan combined with the One-Touch system allows you to clean the ash from the bowl of the kettle with just the push of a lever. There is a built-in ash catcher present between the tripod legs of the grill which catches all the ash so that you don't have to run around and spend half an are cleaning the grill up once you're done with hosting a phenomenal barbecue block party. A quick tip for anybody who's using the Weber 441001 grill outdoors in the wind make sure you add a little water to the open catch pan so that the ash doesn't fly around when you are cooking.

Build quality and efficient design %u2013 the Weber guaranty

As anyone who has been active in the grilling seen will tell you Weber's build quality and attention to detail is simply unparalleled. However, the one thing that sets Weber apart is the fact that they will never change design just to keep up with the times. I read over on a grilling for that Weber tried over 200 new designs for the One Touch kettle grill but what they found out in heating efficiency tests was that the kettle design was simply unbeatable. When we are talking about efficiency you're not only talking about the time it takes to heat up your grill but also the ability to keep it warm for extended periods of time even after the coals have died down. This saves you not only money and effort since you don't have to replace the coals as often but also accelerates the cooking process since the grill will heat up faster.

While this design may be old and time tested Weber has really managed to bring this grill into the 21st century by crafting it out of the latest materials. The steel bowl and lid of the kettle are made out of stainless steel which has then been coated with a generous layer of porcelain. While old grills were painted, porcelain offers dual benefits when it comes to aesthetics and efficiency not to forget longevity of the grill. The porcelain that makes up the exterior of your grill will never rust or fade and cleaning it up is always going to be easy since there are no cracks that might develop over time that will accrue dirt.

The handles on the lid are made out of heat resistant nylon which means they're never going to be hot to touch. The rest of the grill is made out of aluminum including the tripod legs, the ash catcher as well as the vents at the base of the bowl. That is the complete list of materials used to make this grill and if you go back and read it again you will realize that this grill has absolutely no parts that could ever rust.

The tripod legs that the kettle rests on are also quite a work of art and feature two oversized wheels so that you can get a grill and move it around without putting in any kind of effort at all. It is the little things like these that makes the Weber one touch silver kettle grill an absolute wonder to use and a delight to own.

So how much food can you cook on the Weber 441001 grill?

Weber claims that you can easily cook up six full-size large steaks on the grill and looking at the 460 in.² of cooking area that is available to you I agree with them. However, I personally prefer leaving a lot more space between the steak so that you can throw in some seasoning and the fact that it will also make flipping the meat a lot easier.

If you're cooking for larger gathering then you can easily cook a dozen hamburger patties or three dozen hot dogs in one shot. Despite the small footprint of the grill, it is capable of feeding quite the army.

So what is the difference between this grill and the Weber One-Touch Gold Kettle grill?

Other than the fact that the Gold grill costs more than double for the silver grill costs the only things you're getting with this grill are slightly better cooking grates and more advanced ash catching pan. That is all there is and don't let anybody else tell you otherwise - the build quality, the materials used et cetera are all the same.

If you live in windy area then you definitely want to get the gold version of the grill because the ash catcher pan in this case is attached to the bottom of the kettle bowl. When you press the one touch lever the ash automatically goes into the bottom instead of falling out into a catcher pan that is present between the tripod legs. This means that it doesn't matter how windy it is outside you will always have the ash settled and ready for disposal in the ash pan. For lack of a better explanation, the Weber Gold grill has "a better mousetrap".
