What Is A KINDLE?

The Amazon Kindle is a wireless e book reader.

This small, light weight gadget holds up to 200 books electronically, so you are not bogged down with heavyweight books.

It downloads the books and other reading matter in just minutes.

It also holds newspapers, magazines and ebooks which can be downloaded in just a couple minutes from Amazon.com.

Books are MUCH cheaper to buy this way and as long as you take your Kindle with you, you will always have something fabulous to read.

KIndle 2 Now Reads To You. Choose a Womans or Mans Voice!

For The Elderly, Disabled and Small Children.

Recently I have come to realize what a really useful tool Kindle could be in special circumstances.

I am talking about its use for children, the disabled and the aged just to start with.

For disabled people, for instance someone who has had a stroke, or has the use of only one arm, the Kindle e book reader could be a wonderful aid to them living a fuller life. Books are so heavy and they are difficult to balance.

However, Kindle is lightweight and has big buttons to help turn the page, which only need a very light tap to work.

Imagine being in a wheelchair and being able to take this tiny, lightweight device with you where ever you go!

One of the features I love the most, in the kindle is the ability to change the font size. I see this as being very helpful for those older readers, or readers with failing eyesight.

Kindle has 6 different font sizes that you can choose from which enables to reader to read large print if that's what they need.

I know for a fact that My Dad , who is 88 and once was a voracious reader is now having difficulty due to a cateract, and large print is much easier for him to read.

As for Children, well I spose I am being sexist here but especially boys, who prefer to play video games or be outside than reading.

They love any gadget that looks technical and I think Kindle will be really well received by children.

I mean reading is so important in so many ways, the earlier we can get kids loving to read the better off they will be for the rest of their lives.

Parents are now buying Kindle for their children, even very young children who are just learning to read. With that large text size ability, and gadget look, Kindle is perfect for all children.

Think outside the box, who in your family could benefit from owning the Kindle e book reader?Photobucket

What Do Purchasers Really Think of Kindle?

Photobucket

Here are a couple of comments from People who have bought the Kindle.

1: I have been using my Kindle for about 6 weeks and I must say that it took me only a few hours to totally fall in love with it. I curl up in my lounge chair with some hot tea next to me and get lost in a world of reading. The size is very appropriate for reading and I can read with only one hand since I use a thumb to press the next page button. This leaves my other hand free to sip my tea or pet the dog.

2: I really love this product. I have arthritis in my hands & holding a book & turning pages is difficult, especially when reading in bed. The Kindle is lightweight & I don't have to deal with page turning at all. I do find the right side 'button' for page turning is too long. It is very easy to accidentally turn the page with such a large button. I think this problem is resolved in the next version of Kindle with a smaller button.
I was very disappointed to learn that the Kindle will not accept the downloadable books from the public library because of the time limit on them. I would like to see this made possible in the future. Book buyers will still buy books, but we shouldn't have to purchase every single book we want to read. There are some free books available on the internet.
I also love the ability to change print size. This is very important to seniors with failing eyesight & others with visual disabilities.
Aside from being very useful, this product is just plain fun!

3: I got my Kindle as a gift from my husband about five months ago and I just love it!!! I carry it with my everywhere. I read it everywhere and I can buy and download books where ever!!! I just love it!!!!

The MOST IMPORTANT things You Need To Know BEFORE Buying Kindle

7 Interesting Facts about Amazon's Kindle Ebook Reader

1: You can now buy Kindle from Amazon.com. It is in stock once again.

2: As you already know, Kindle can access Amazon.com and the web to search Wikipedia via its wireless connection, but what you may not know is that Kindle allows you to also surf the web in general.

3: You can read the first chapters of books for free to see if you are interested enough to buy them. Magazines and Newspapers come with a 14 day trial and they can be purchased one at a time without a subscription.

4: When you subscribe to Magazines or Newspapers, they arrive hours or even days before the print subscribers get theirs.

5: Besides being an ebook reader, Kindle is also a MP3 player and an Audio book reader. It has both speakers and a headphone jack. If you can multi task, then you can listen to music on the shuffle facility while reading.

Kindle: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device

Kindle: Amazon's Original Wireless Reading Device (1st generation)

Amazon Price: (as of 07/11/2009)Buy Now
List Price: $359.00

I've had my Kindle about a month now, and wanted to put my '2 cents' in on how absolutely fantastic this product is!

I have always loved to read, but as I've gotten older, my already poor eyesight has continued to decline. Reading large print helped with seeing the text, but the books are so heavy (and expensive!) and my arthritic hands and arms tire very fast from holding the book.

I just haven't read as much as I used to. Kindle changed all that. It has enriched my daily life in so many ways:
1. given me back the simple enjoyment of escaping into the world of great fictional characters -- NO MORE ACHING HANDS OR ARMS AND TEXT I CAN CHANGE WITH A COUPLE CLICKS!!
2. learning something new about the history of some part of the world
3. getting daily encouragement from an inspirational book
4. finding a certain Bible verse easily
5. having the Denver Post at my fingertips daily (with no newsprint covered fingertips or paper cluttering up the kitchen table)
6. carrying a huge library in my purse -- no new bookcases required
7. having a dictionary at my fingertips while reading is totally awesome
8. reading samples of books before buying
9. buying and downloading a book in a major of seconds

I could go on and on, but many others have listed the wonders of this device so much more eloquently than I can.

The only minor complaint I have with this awesome purchase is the difficulty of arranging the various books without the ability to create 'folders' of some sort. I am hoping Amazon will come up with a solution to this inconvenience with a software update in the near future.

As for the many comments about accidentally turning pages while reading, I just don't find that to be an issue at all. I use the M-Edge cover, folded back, while reading. Once I have the book open to start reading, I hold the device with one hand with my thumb resting at the bottom on the keyboard. While reading, the keys are locked, so it isn't difficult to grasp the device without accidentally hitting 'next page' or 'previous page.' I just don't understand the issue.

As for the price, yes, the Kindle is not an inexpensive purchase. That being said, it has truly been a life-changing purchase, and one that paid for itself the very first day as far as I'm concerned. I adore my Kindle!

Kindles Paper Like Screen

Paper-like Screen
Utilizing a new high-resolution display technology called electronic paper, Kindle provides a crisp black-and-white screen that resembles the appearance and readability of printed paper.

The screen works using ink, just like books and newspapers, but displays the ink particles electronically.

It reflects light like ordinary paper and uses no backlighting, eliminating the glare associated with other electronic displays.

As a result, Kindle can be read as easily in bright sunlight as in your living room.

The screen never gets hot so you can comfortably read as long as you like.

See what others are saying about the Kindle screen:

James Patterson, author of You've Been Warned, "The screen is fabulous. You would expect that, with a screen, there would be a glare, it would be hard to read but it's not. There's no glare. It's not backlit, which is kind of magical. I think people are going to be very, very surprised and delighted. This is a lot easier to read than a lot of books are these days."

Michael Lewis, author of Moneyball, "I'm telling you, after five minutes I've ceased to think I'm looking at a screen. It's not like reading a computer screen. It's more like reading a piece of paper. I think it's actually clearer, easier on the eye than the printed word."

Neil Gaiman, author of Stardust, "It's like paper and it's very interesting. It's very, very crisp. Very functional. Very readable."

I love my Kindle. Having said that, there is much to learn about the Kindle, and it takes time to fully know it. I got mine Dec. 4th, have used it daily and taken it everywhere I have gone, and am still learning more and more as time goes on.

I currently have 41 pages in my home page directory which at 12/page comes to 492 items, most of which are books, but not all. I have bought many books from the Kindle Store, but have been able to get a very large number for free from many sources on the web -- primarily ebook vendors who provide out-of-copyright items for free -- many famous authors such as Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe, with up to thousands in their complete list. I was an English Lit major in college long ago, and thought I would never be able to read theses classics again, much less own them.

I'm experimenting with Audio Books. I could have background music while I read, but don't like distraction. I have put a lot of pdf downloads on it. They work ok.
