FURminator deShedding Tool

FURminator deShedding Tool developed to reduce shedding better than any brush, comb, or rake, this revolution tool works effectively for all shedding breeds of dogs and cats, both long- and short-haired. It addresses the issue of the undercoat, which can become a dense mess of loose, dead hair and the major source of shedding, and the allergies and cleanliness problems that come with it. The revolutionary grooming device utilizes a unique 4-inch stainless-steel edge that grabs loose undercoat hair and quickly and easily removes it, without damaging the topcoat. It actually brings out the pet's natural oils, leaving a shiny and healthy topcoat. The pet will enjoy the feeling the de-shedding tool provides, and caretakers will appreciate the results. Used by veterinarians and recommended by doctors for people who have allergies, the tool is proven to decrease shedding by 60 to 80 percent for about four to six weeks. The patented de-shedding tool features a comfortable, ergonomic grip handle and measures 6 by 1 by 4-1/8 inches.

FURminator Using Guide

It is very important you read and understand these instructions thoroughly before performing the FURminator shed-less treatment. Make sure all personnel are adequately trained and supervised in the process. These guide apply to dogs, but the FURminator shed-less treatment
works well for cats too.

  • step one, the bath
Start with a massaging bath with the FURminator deShedding shampoo to separates the pet's coat and stimulates the hair follicles. Protect the pet's ears and eyes. Use warm water to wet the coat completely before applying shampoo. A good all-natural shampoo is recommended. Gently massage the skin and coat and let the shampoo clean and loosen the hair as well as dissolve oils and dirt. Make sure to rinse out all the shampoo. A power / pressure bathing system is highly recommended.

  • step two, the deShedding solution
This specially formulated all-natural FURminator deShedding solution helps to loosen the undercoat and loose hair. Apply the solution saturating the entire coat. Let it stand for 5 minutes while massaging and brushing it into the pet's undercoat. Rinse with warm water. Apply any conditioners (if needed).

  • step three, drying & brushing
Use a high velocity dryer to separate and remove the excess coat and loose hair on the pet. Force air dry until the coat is completely dry. Some shops prefer to force air dry a pet to remove some of the loose hair and undercoat and then let the pet finish drying in a cage dryer. This targeted blow drying process is followed by thorough brushing and combing. For most medium to heavy coated breeds, a wire slicker brush is a good choice for brushing. The skin of shorter haired dogs can be scratched by a wire slicker, so a rubber brush might work better. Be very careful not to "brush burn" the pet. Rough brushing and combing as well as putting too much downward pressure can cause the skin to get irritated and red. Don't brush the skin, but the hair, brushing it out and up away from the skin. Be extra careful around the male sheath, stomach and around the inside of the legs. Dogs with sensitive skin can get brush burns even with light brushing. Medium and long coats can hide existing sores, cuts and skin conditions, so inspect each pet carefully during the brushing procedure.

  • step four, the FURminator professional deShedding tool
The FURminator professional deShedding tool is used to extract additional loose hair and undercoat from the pet ... leaving only the shiny and healthy top coat. The tool is used much like a brush, pulling the tool towards your body in the direction of the pet's hair growth. Use long gentle strokes with the tool and don't stay in one spot repeatedly as to prevent brush burn. As with brushing, be extra careful around the male sheath, stomach and around the inside of the legs The time required working on the pet may vary greatly with the breed and condition of the pet's coat. Using the FURminator tool as well as brushing can extract a lot of loose hair and a mask should be worn to reduce inhaling the hair.

FURminator FAQ

Q: Does the deShedding Tool work without using the FURminator deShedding Shampoo and Solution?
A: Yes, however the tool is more effective if you use the deShedding shampoo and deShedding solution or the waterless shampoo and conditioner.

Q: Which size tool is best for my pet?
A: All of the tools have the same edge, only the width is different.
Small Blue Tool recommended for small to medium sized dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets
Purple Cat Tool recommended for small to medium sized cats
Medium Yellow Tool recommended for medium to large sized dogs
Large Yellow Tool recommended for large dogs
Hunter Green Equine Tool recommended for horses and other livestock

Q: Do the shampoos, solution and conditioners contain natural ingredients?
A: The ingredients are natural, non-drying and hypoallergenic.
%u2022 The deShedding shampoo contains: Coconut base, hydrolyzed wheat protein, calendula extract, hydrolyzed oat protein, kava extract, vitamin E, Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, chamomile extract, aloe vera, carica papaya extract and malva sylvestris extract.
%u2022 The deShedding solution contains: Kava extract, hydrolyzed wheat protein, vitamin A, Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids, hydrolyzed oat protein, vitamin E, vitamin B5 and chamomile extract.
%u2022 The cat shampoo and conditioner contains: Palm and coconut base, hydrolyzed wheat protein, aloe vera, Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids, almond oil, wheat germ oil, vitamin A and vitamin E.
%u2022 The waterless shampoo and conditioner for dogs and cats and the waterless shampoo and conditioner for cats contain: Coconut base cleaners, glycerin, hydrolyzed collagen protein, safflower oil, Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids, vitamin E.

Q: How often should the tool be used?
A: The tool is fine to use every day, but really not necessary. With most breeds, using the tool once or twice a week for 10-20 minutes each session will reduce shedding up to 90 percent.

Q: How often should the deShedding shampoo and deShedding solution be used?
A: We recommend using the shampoo and solution every month if necessary. The shampoo and solution are hypoallergenic and non-drying, which means you can use the products more often if necessary.

Q: How often should the waterless deShedding shampoo and conditioner be used?
A: The waterless deShedding shampoo and conditioner can be used as often as necessary. The non-drying formula will not dry out your pet's coat with daily use.

Q: Does the FURminator deShedding Tool cut the hair?
A: No, the FURminator deShedding Tool does not cut or damage the coat, but rather pushes through the topcoat to remove the dead undercoat and loose hair.

Q: Does the deShedding tool help prevent hairball's in cats?
A: The FURminator deShedding Tool was nominated by Tufts University School of Veterinarian Medicine's newsletter as the number one product to reduce hairball's in cats. Using the FURminator deShedding Tool on a regular basis, as well as the cat shampoo will help reduce shedding, thus reducing the amount of hair your cat ingests.

Q: Are the products only for use on dogs and cats?
A: FURminator Inc. has recently introduced an equine tool with a 5 inch edge. The equine tool helps to remove the "winter coat" faster helping the horse to stay cool in the summer. Using the deShedding tool on horses can also stimulate circulation and hair growth. The tools may also be used on rabbits, ferrets and cattle.

Q: Do I ever need to sharpen or replace the deShedding edge?
A: The average consumer should not have to replace the deShedding edge for the lifetime of the pet. We always advise to keep the protective cover on the deShedding edge at all times when not in use. The small blue and purple cat deShedding tools do not have replaceable edges. The medium, large and equine deShedding tools do have replaceable edges.

Q: Do the shampoos, solution and conditioners contain natural ingredients?
A: The ingredients are natural, non-drying and hypoallergenic.
%u2022 The deShedding shampoo contains: Coconut base, hydrolyzed wheat protein, calendula extract, hydrolyzed oat protein, kava extract, vitamin E, Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, chamomile extract, aloe vera, carica papaya extract and malva sylvestris extract.
%u2022 The deShedding solution contains: Kava extract, hydrolyzed wheat protein, vitamin A, Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids, hydrolyzed oat protein, vitamin E, vitamin B5 and chamomile extract.
%u2022 The cat shampoo and conditioner contains: Palm and coconut base, hydrolyzed wheat protein, aloe vera, Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids, almond oil, wheat germ oil, vitamin A and vitamin E.
%u2022 The waterless shampoo and conditioner for dogs and cats and the waterless shampoo and conditioner for cats contain: Coconut base cleaners, glycerin, hydrolyzed collagen protein, safflower oil, Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids, vitamin E.

Q: How often should the Shed-Less Treatment be performed?
A: We recommend having the entire Shed-Less Treatment performed on your pet every 4-6 weeks. You may need to use the tool on your pet's coat between treatments during heavy shedding seasons.

FURminator Tips

  • Tip one - skip the shampoo rinse
The entire shed-less treatment starts with a massaging bath. When you are finished with the bath, instead of rinsing off the shampoo, apply the solution into the pet's coat on top of the shampoo. By skipping the shampoo rinse, you save on water as well as time you would spend rinsing out the shampoo before the solution is applied.

  • tip two - the wet blow-out
In step two, the deShedding solution is applied and massaged (a rubber brush is recommended) into the pet's coat and let stand for 5 minutes. After this is complete, instead of rinsing, use your high velocity force dryer to remove the hair, shampoo & solution while the pet is still in the tub. This process keeps
the removed hair in the tub instead of floating around in the air.The hair also gets blown off and sticks to the tub walls to be removed before rinsing the pet so you have less hair going down your drains. You will be amazed at how much hair will come out, as well as the time you will save on rinsing the pet.

  • tip three - skin tight brushing
The FURminator professional deShedding tool is used in step four to remove loose hair and undercoat on the pet.To be even more efficient in this process, gently pull the pet's skin with your hand closest to the head of the pet so that the skin is tighter. This will allow the tool to work more effectively and also prevents the tool from grabbing any uneven or wrinkled skin on the pet.Be sure to always brush in the direction of the hair growth.

  • tip four - the mini-shed-less
A mini-shed-less treatment can be an easy valuable add-on service in addition to the normal FURminator shed-less treatment. This treatment is done without bathing the pet or using the solution. The mini-shedless can be done instead of, or in between a normal shed-less treatment.

  • tip five - the terrier secret
The FURminator professional deShedding tool is also the ultimate stripping tool for terriers. A terrier's coat will soften and dull after repeated use of a clipper. The deShedding tool will bring back the color as well as reviving the desirable coarse coat after approximately 5 or 6 treatments. For a terrier (and only terriers), use the tool before bathing and clipping ... it works better on a dirty coat. This is an additional add-on service.

Furminator Testimonials

Furminator users experience

"Got my deshedding Tool on Monday. It works great. I have Labs and cats, BIG difference ....way less fur balls around the house. The FURminator should come included when one gets a puppy or kitten....hahaha."

Great grooming tool
Paula Garwood

"I received my FURminator from QVC and it really works great on my cat Noel. She even comes over and looks at the FURminator and then rubs herself against us until we groom her. She sits and lets us brush her until we get tired. I am very pleased that QVC offered this as a new item. Keep up the good work."

Joyce Mitchell
North Miami, FL

"I have recommended this product to many of my clients, and we are all thrilled with the results. My daughter has severe allergies, and now she can be around my golden retrievers!!"

Erin

"The most wonderful thing happened after just one treatment----NO MORE HAIR---- I was using my swiffer to pick up hair two times a day NO MORE----Please tell me how I can buy the shampoo and comb for home use between trips to our groomer. Thanks, nice to buy something that does what it says it will do."

Sally

"I have had my lab mix "Furminated" twice, once before the Holidays, and another time just recently. I have had numerous compliments on how shiny and beatiful Freddie's coat is, and my house hair clean-up has decreased dramatically. Needless to say I am a believer. "

Thank you,
Sarah

"My groomer, Casey at Pets and People in Statesboro, used the FURminator on my baby: a lab named Barrywhite. It worked! Now we don't have hair everywhere. We thank you and thank Casey, too."

Christy

"My neighbors need the FURminator because of allergies, also. I had told them about it. They helped me when I was away by taking care of my cats. I want to give them a FURminator to use on their cat and "part time grandparent to dog" situation. Thank you so much for producing such a much needed tool so that we animal lovers can eliminate much of the problems brought about by our pets."

I give my thumbs up for the Furrminator. It really works well! Make sure you don't have a wet dog or cat, as it works via static electricity. :)
