Lost TV Series - And Why I Love Lost!

Lost TV series is my all-time favorite TV show. It may seem odd that I am doing an "about me" lens focused on Lost, but this series has captured my attention and imagination. And if you have anyone on your Christmas list who also loves "Lost", then you have found the perfect Christmas gift!

Lost is such a unique show, that you either love the show and can't wait for the next episode, or you hate it and think that Losties are part of a weird underground cult. Not much of a middle ground exists. It is not a show that you can casually watch.

I happen to love the show. I am a big fan and in this lens I am going to explain some of the things that I do love about the show and why I am such a huge fan. Hopefully, you will join in and leave some notes. I would love to know why you love or hate the Lost TV show!

Lost - A Little Escapism is Always Relaxing

Stranded on a beautiful island.

One of the things I love about Lost is the little bit of escapism that is encouraged by the TV show.

Imagine being stranded on a beautiful, remote, Hawaiian-type island. Of course, I expect to have the same submarine that the Others have for those necessary mainland trips!

And I would expect the polar bears to be in their cages and the smoke monster to stay in the temple. Oh, and the Others would of course be "Friendly Others!"

Hey, it's my escape fantasy!

Lost - A Unique TV Series

Why I enjoy Lost....

Lost is unique. I have never seen a show like this one. You have beautiful scenery, interesting characters, a full story line.

Throw in a little sci fi and some supernatural occurances. Add a dash of humor and some bad mojo. Then drop a plane on a remote island. And you have Lost!

Lost first aired in 2004, and continued to intrigue viewers over the next 6 seasons. Each week fans would tune in to watch, and then spend the week discussing the episode in many forums. Set includes one full disc of never-seen-bonus scenes.

Lost - Wow! A Developed, Complex Storyline

Why I enjoy Lost...

Finally, network TV has provided a show that allows for the possibility that viewers may actually have some intelligence after all. And that we don't want the same sitcoms repeated over and over with a slight cast adjustment. You know the shows: cute woman with big, (sometimes overweight) husband who seems to have the mental capacity of a ten year old.

Lost TV Series includes in-depth character development, flash backs, flash forwards. And we have been presented with more than two main characters!

Network TV was actually concerned about the number of characters included in Lost. Some officials felt that if too many characters were introduced, then the general population would lose interest and not care to keep up with the story.

Thank goodness we had a chance to prove them wrong!

I enjoy sci fi, so that puts Lost right in my radar.

The time travel and alternate realities is mind boggling. Are we pre-destined? Is everything pre-ordained? As Charlie writes on the tape he had wrapped around his fingers "FATE".

Desmond certainly tried to save Charlie from his fate. But, both soon realized that it was futile. (Hmmm.....sounds like the Borg now!) Charlie decided to accept his fate and manipulated what he could to die heroically, by helping his fellow survivors get rescued (or killed!).

Just look at the blast door and you get a feeling for all the secrets and intricate plot lines of Lost.

I see a puzzle like this and I just want to solve it and figure out what each hatch represents.

Lost - Required Reading List Included

Why I enjoy Lost...

lost_encyclopediaThroughout the Lost TV Series, books are discussed, displayed, or a character (usually Sawyer) is seen reading one.

Losties know the book titles are not just a casual occurrence. And I love the challenge of relating the book to that particular scene or character.

The books are always relevant to the characters and the story line. Maybe the book sheds some insight into a character, such as Juliette with her selection for the book club, Carrie.

Juliette had chosen Carrie as her title for the Others' book club. Anyone familiar with Carrie knows that she ultimately destroys all her classmates in the school gymnasium. And in the fifth season finale, we see that Juliette is the one who actually sets off the nuclear bomb by hammering on it with a rock.

Lost - One Giant Puzzle Just Waiting to be Solved

Why I enjoy Lost...

I love looking for the clues and puzzle pieces offered in each episode. So many clues and so many different theories as to what is actually happening on the island.

You have the number sequence that shows up repeatedly throughout the show - 4 8 15 16 23 42. The numbers have to be entered into a computer so that the world is not destroyed. That is, until John decides he knows what is best for everyone. Coincidently, Hurley has used the same numbers to win a huge lottery resulting in his "bad" luck. Cluck, cluck anyone?

We have dead people walking around as though they are alive. And we have alive people mysteriously appearing thousands of miles away as though they are dead, just to give a warning to someone on the island!

Then we have polar bears (nasty polar bears!) on a tropical island, whispers, smoke monsters, the black rock, the well, the lower level of the temple, and of course, the statue.
