What does Pashmina mean?

The origin and definition of pashmina

Pashmina GoatsThe name pashmina comes from the Persian word pashm, meaning wool. Specifically pashm refers to the fine cashmere wool from pashmina goats, found in India, Nepal, and Pakistan in the Himalayas. The fine woolen fabric traditionally woven on a hand loom from pashm became known as pashmina, and later the woolen scarves and shawls made from the material took the same name.

The word pashmina has evolved, over time, to include shawls and scarves that are not made of pashmina wool, but are simply shaped and styled similarly to the original pashminas found in the Himalayas.

How to Clean my Pashmina

Guide to washing pashminas

Pashminas are not hard to clean. Simply place the pashmina in warm, not hot, water with a very gentle shampoo, let it soak for around 5 minutes, and then rinse it with additional warm water. Lie it out on a flat surface to dry.

*Wet pashminas will dry faster if you spread them out on top of a towel.

My sister-in-law gave me a beautiful pink pashmina scarf she found in Hong Kong. Thanks for the suggestions on how to wear it more creatively. I'm a big fan of shawls. My grandmother always made them for me when I was growing up.

Beautiful lens! I have a few pashminas that I adore, they are so soft and pretty. My favorites are the longer ones because they're warmer and you can tie them more ways. Wonderful job here!!
