There is an entire series of these early readers with great pictures, simple descriptions and age-friendly words.
In R2-D2 and Friends, for instance, there is an introduction that reads "This is R2-D2. He is a clever machine called a droid." The book explains R2-D2's height in a way young children understand-- "only a little bit shorter than Anakin when he was a small boy."

With these new classic Star Wars(r) Readers, children learn about the fantastic Jedi Knights, rogue Rebels, heroic allies, and evil Sith Lords that are loved by several generations. R2-D2, C-3P0, and other droids, large and small, come to life in this classic

Amazon Reviewer, Raymore, Missouri USA said:
"What an amazing, thorough, comphrensive guide to everything Star Wars. NOTHING is left out. You get not only in depth profiles of every major character, but every OTHER character in the universe. It's so detailed that they break down each PART of each weapon, ship, etc. For someone like myself who isn't the biggest Star Wars geek (but wanting to learn more), this is a godsend. There are many, many, hardcore fans out there that can reference almost anything and anyone to do with Star Wars. Well, now you can too, and you don't have to see the films 3245 times to do it."

The first book in an original novel series!

Immediately following the destruction of the Separatist battleship Malevolence, a small team of Clones and their Jedi General are sent deep into the dangerous Wild Space to uncover the secret of the mysterious ship%uFFFD's origin. This novel is written by acclaimed writer Ryder Windham, who has authored over 50 Star Wars books.

From Amazon Reviewer D. Erickson
"If you're looking for a guidebook or a fun read, look elsewhere. This book is exactly what it claims to be: an amazingly complete encyclopedia with alphabetical entries for every Star Wars subject imaginable. From the expected main heroes to side characters from videogames, hardly-remembered comic books and background aliens. Good stuff."

Good stuff, some of the Star Wars books are genuinely a great read. And as the other poster said Timothy Zahn is a good place to start.

I have read a good amount of SW books and recommend them to everyone. The best books are those wrote by Timothy Zahn.

I'm one of those fortunate parents who has children who love to read. My 8yr old has been reading independently since he was four and has amassed quite a collection of books. I thought he had just about all of the SW books in existence until I looked at this selection. Lots of great birthday ideas here! Favorited and lensrolled to all three of my SW lenses!

May the force be with you! ...couldn't resist that remark. Once my home overflowed with Star Wars everything imaginable ...books, videos, clothing ... you name it - but by far the favorites were the ships and the figures. Most gone now (sold on eBay), but now and then still find shadows of those Star Wars days lurking in corners :-) Love this 5 star lens! Love the Yoda quote..."No try - DO!"

Star Wars must be one of the most durable and long lasting stories ever. We love all the films, but my son was never much of a reader. Perhaps if he'd had some Star Wars books it might have been different!

Star Wars books are great for boys (and men, too.) We have shelves of Star Wars books. We had the early learning reader ones, the easy chapter books and now we have the adult chapter books. We even have a couple of Visual Dictionary style books. One son read them endlessly.

I haven't read any Star Wars books but I agree with the consensus. They would be a great way to get boys to read!

I haven't read any of the books, but if I had a young Star Wars fan, you can bet that I'd be stocking up on these. What a fabulous way to get a child to read!
