War Relic Introduction

War relics from many past conflicts have become collectors items, some of these collectors items have become in such demand because of the amount of collectors wishing to add them to their collections that they command a high price.

It seems that years after battles have finished many people wish to own a piece of these important periods of history.

Collecting war relics is mainly classed as collecting militaria as it encompasses collecting military items that were not used during the act of war.

Wars Most Collectible

War relics from World War One and World War Two are those most collected by militaria collectors, this is probably because of the huge impact these two wars had on the world in general and because they were quite a few years ago giving them a historical element.

Most collectors it seems do not just collect general items from these world war eras but choose a specific area of these wars that interest them, this is their collection niche.

As time moves on and the collectibles age along with collectors trying to find specific items for their collection many items become harder to find on the market. Over time this causes many war relics to start rising in market value. Some of these relics are high in value to begin with as the items were scarce in the beginning.

Most Collected - German World War Two

The most sought after items are that of Germany in World War Two, especially that of the Nazi regime and the feared SS divisions.

If you frequent any world war collectors forums you are sure to see many people talking about German World War Two items they have or are after for their collections.

What is it about German World War items people like?

Unlike British, American, Russian and other forces during the second world war Germany still carried on making ornate items to adorn the military dress of all its soldiers and seamen. This makes the items more appealing when compared to the plain dress of their Allied counterparts.

Even something as simple as a belt in the German Nazi regime was made to be really ornate and interesting.

Buy World War Medals

Another sought after collection is that of medals soldiers won during World War one and two.

Some people collect any world war medal but alot of collectors stick to a specific country when collecting medals. Out of all the countries that took part in both world wars it seems that the most sought after are that of Germany and the Soviet Union.

You will find there is a thrill to owning a medal of a hard fought battle that an unknown soldier fought bravely in.

Personally I have a love for Orders and Medals of the Soviet Regime during world war two, this is probably because they had the most variety of medals and orders that could be won.

Buy Soldiers Helmet

Another great item people wish to collect are the helmets of soldiers from the Wars, especially the Second World War.

It seems that many love to collect the helmets of different countries with German helmets being the most sought after. The German helmets are the most distinct of World War Two and also normally carry the insignia of the regiment a soldier was in, the SS German Helmets are especially sought after.

Buy War Photos

Photos are a much wanted collectors item. Real photos of soldiers and others during World War One and World War Two are sought after, this is partly because they are something very close to the people who took them at the time but also because they offer us a real window into the past as a snap shot of a specific moment at a specific time of events.

Take Care when Collecting

A side note that all must heed. If your new to collecting you need to take care when purchasing any items, even from reputable sellers.

In recent times there have been many fake items flooding the militaria market. Even simple medals such as the Soviet "Defense of Stalingrad" medal which has a value of around $20 - $40 dollars has been faked on a large scale.

Always take precautions by becoming active in war collectors forums where you can ask more seasoned collectors there views on items you wish to buy.
