Weber 121020 Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill

A grill that was built to be taken to the beach or tailgating and yet manages to work flawlessly as charcoal grill in your backyard has been the dream of many a griller for a very long time. While it is true that pretty much any company could have made a product like this, I'm personally pretty happy that Weber is the one that rose up to the challenge with the Weber Go-Anywhere charcoal grill - a beast in its own right. The go anywhere series appeals both to city dwellers as well as outdoor aficionados with its porcelain coated steel construction and a leg stand that you can fold back into the base of the grill.

The life of the party%u2026

The Weber go anywhere series of grills has traditionally been the kind of grill that you take to tailgating parties or fishing expeditions but with the latest addition having resulted in the Weber 121020 go anywhere charcoal grill, Weber has truly brought the traditional grill into the 21st century. While the older versions of the go anywhere grill were sold based on the fact that they had superior design and was a lot more efficient than most competing grills, the 121020 Go Anywhere barbecue grill builds on those same qualities while adding in portability. Unlike most of the other portable grills, you don't really need a pickup truck to carry this baby around. Weighing in at only 14 lbs., it will easily fit into the boot of your Volkswagen beetle. Once you get to the beach, carrying this grill around is a breeze since the lid locks into the base of the grill with a handle facing outwards which means that you can carry it around like a picnic basket. To maximize on the space that is available to you can always stock up fruit or chicken wings where the charcoal is supposed to go.

Small in size, but big on grilling

When you are out on a fishing expedition or spending the weekend by the lake, the last thing that you need is a full-size grill simply because it would be impossible to carry something like this around. But let me ask you, if it were possible to squeeze all of that amazing cooking area and power into a small package would you not go for it?

Unlike most of Weber's grills, this grill does not feature their patented kettle design instead opting for a more rectangular enclosure. The reason that this is the case is so you're optimizing on both the cooking area and the fact that you can pack this grill in tight spaces. A round or football shaped cooking area would mean that there would be a lot of space left around the grill when you pack it into your boot and when space is at a premium, you would be losing out on the corners that the rectangle shape offers.

With close to 160 in.² of cooking space Weber claims that you can easily fit four medium-sized steaks onto the grill without any problems. I personally prefer to have a little bit of more space on the surface of the grill since it makes flipping the steak a lot more easier. By that logic, you can easily fit in three medium-sized steaks right onto the grill. As far as smaller food items are concerned you can easily load up about a dozen hot dogs on this grill with room to spare. Weber has managed to put in all of the design learning into this grill which ensures that you don't get accidental flare-ups of an uneven temperature across the grate.

Superior build quality to fulfill the Weber promise

Weber has been the one company that has stood the test of time when it comes to outdoor cooking equipment and you only need to look at the build quality of their products to see why they have been the number one outdoor appliance company in the United States for over 50 years. Starting with the porcelain coated exterior which not only prevents rusting and fading but is also extremely easy to clean makes for an attractive looking grill. The cooking grates on the other hand are triple nickel plated which gives them a chrome finish which is a lot more durable than using chromium itself. Considering that this grill can get pretty hot you definitely want the best quality of materials used since nobody likes the taste of metal in their chicken breast!

The heat resistant nylon handles also make it easy to move the lid around even if you were smoking meat with the unit closed. But why would you want to move the lid with charcoals burning? Well, because like I said Weber is the one company that has been innovating itself to the head of the pack and they have done it again with a lid that fixes into the base if you set it at the right angle which allows you to get an effective barrier against oncoming wind. Add to that the standard 10 year warranty that Weber offers on all its products and their superior customer support and after sales service and you have a winning recipe. An ecstatic customer on Amazon said that they had managed to take their Go Anywhere charcoal barbecue grill to Korea, Yemen, China and back to the US over the span of a decade without having any problems whatsoever.

Efficient to the core

The nickel plated grates have been designed so that they pass on the maximum amount of heat to your meat as evenly as possible while still getting hot enough to impart those traditional grilling marks that make for an alternating soft and crunchy flavor with any meat that you cook. This grill will also save you money on charcoal since Weber says that once you're done using the grill all you need to do is close up the lid and "suffocate" the charcoal so that you can reuse it later after it cools down. Even with its compact size this grill can handle cooking food for about 5 to 6 people in one shot.

The nickel plated grate is actually made out of cast iron which as any grill will tell you is the best material to use for making charcoal cooking grates. Cast-iron heats up quickly and cools down a lot more slowly which allows you to get the most bang for the buck when you are cooking things like hamburgers and the sort. Just imagine being done with flipping hamburger patties and then heating up the buns on the still hot grill even though the charcoal died down 10 min ago. Throw in a few woodchips and you can even add a dash of the traditional smokehouse meat flavor to your steak.
