A quick look at the updated specifications and you suddenly realize how many changes Weber has made to the grill and the charcoal grill from Weber really is at a point where I don't think anybody who's looking for the perfect charcoal grill would add anything to it.

Weber managed to perfect the charcoal grill in the early 1980s and since then they have been really working hard to provide improvements to the design. However, when you have a look at the Weber One-Touch Gold charcoal grill first thing that you wonder about is whether they have managed to get anything done in all of these years at all! This grill features the same kettle bowl design that Weber has been using for a very long time and if you are only to go by outward appearances it would not look like much has changed.

A slew of new features, kick ass wheels and the same design?

Let's get the design get out of the way before the head over to have a look at the new features that this grill has. This classic design has been to a number of efficiency tests and has managed to stay mostly true to its original version. The thing about efficiency tests is that most of them have completely evolved over the last decade or so and even with the new tests, the same old design has managed to stay on top. I remember somebody at the Weber sales department telling me that they had tried over 200 different types of designs ranging from modifications of the current design to completely new approaches and this grill was still the best there was.

What new features are looking at here?

1. The Ash Catcher - Never get your hands dirty!
One look at the ash catcher of this grill and you know something really different is going on here. The 'One Touch' moniker that has been given to this grill is all about the ash catcher once you realize that all you need to do to clean the grill up is press the lever on the ash catcher and all of the ash drops away. This has really made using charcoal grills easy especially if you live in windy areas. The problem with the old ash catcher was that it was simply a pan present under the days of the grill while the newer ash catcher is attached to the bottom. This leaves no room for wind and really makes cleaning up after yourself so easy that even your 8-year-old could do it - just make sure all coals have cooled down before you do so! All you have to do is open up the lever activated grates and the ash is collected from the kettle into the attached pot shaped ash catcher.

2. The new improved venting system
While the older grills did have a respectable venting system, the one on the charcoal One-Touch Gold models is simply out of this world. Not only is it easier to vent out all the extra smoke but if you have owned other versions of this grill previously then you will realize that the coals are heating up faster owing to better air circulation which is obviously going to help you cook your meat in less time.

3. Keep the steam engines running - Adding coal is finally convenient
The biggest problem with any charcoal grill is that adding coal to it is nothing short of performing a an open heart surgery. Well not exactly, you just have to make sure that you don't touch any part of the grill with your hands or you risk getting burned - talk about some tough love there. The Weber One Touch Gold charcoal grill doesn't make you do more work when it comes to adding: since the new models happen to have a set of flip up hatches that will let you add more coal to the grill without having to lift up the entire grate. Like I said, the Gold One Touch 751001 is truly the grill of choice for a perfectionist.

Porcelain, porcelain everywhere and not a stain in sight

Weber has truly pioneered the art of coating most of the grill parts in porcelain and the benefits that the strategy has offered are really obvious. The first thing that you realize about porcelain is that it is so much more easier to clean; even easier than cleaning stains off the paint of your car. The fact that it helps prevent corrosion of your grill is an added bonus. The lid and the bowl of the kettle charcoal grill has been made out of porcelain enameled steel which allows for better heat retention and the guarantee that your grill's exterior will never rust, fade or pale out even if left in the rain.

So how is it different from the One Touch Silver charcoal grill model?

Like with all things, you pay a premium for a bigger cooking grate which results in much larger cooking surface area. When it comes to grills, larger surface area is truly better because you can get more food cooked at the same time which results in you having to spend less time standing behind the grill cooking food. At just under 400 in.² of cooking area you can cook 2 full-sized chickens or a turkey in one go. If you're cooking for larger numbers, then you'll be able to easily grill 20 hamburgers or 36 hot dogs. That really is a huge amount of food and will make you a hit at any barbecue party you happen to throw.

As far as features are concerned, the main difference between the cold and the Silver edition of these charcoal grills is the ash catcher as well as the nickel coated cooking grates. Unless you are really strapped on cash, I would never suggest that you go for the silver version of the grill because the ash catcher on the Gold grill model is truly superior and worth the extra $50 that you have to pay.

Where can I buy the Weber 751001 22.5 inch One Touch Gold charcoal grill?

I've looked everywhere, and unless you are reading this on Black Friday or Cyber Monday the chances of finding it at a lower price than what Amazon is selling is pretty much impossible. Combined with the free shipping that Amazon is offering on this product along with that $10 discount at the time of this writing, it truly is the best deal that you can get your hands on.
