A Chicken Coop With Extra Features
This garden chicken coop is perfect for the smaller garden. It comes with extra features normally only found on more expensive chicken coops. This style of chicken coop (also known as a chicken ark) is perfect for moving around the garden.
See below for the extra features I have incorporated.

Garden Chicken Coop-Extra Features
The sleeping/nesting area in the coop comes already perched which is very unusual in these types of coops but was something I insisted on, knowing how much my own hens love to "perch". (You will see that the "Eglu" comes with a fully-perched area) In addition, there is a removable nesting box which sits in the nesting area.
The coop also has a handle at either end meaning it can be moved easily around the garden. Until I kept chickens, I didn't realize how useful this is! They make quite a lot of mess on the ground so it is great if they can be moved occasionally to give them some new ground to peck around on. They are very well constructed and look good in any garden.
The coop also has doors at either end-this is useful as an extra run area can be attached to the end opposite the sleeping area.
The size is 6ft 3" in length, 2ft 1" high by 2ft 5" wide. They will be delivered flat packed with easy assembly instructions.

Due to high demand, I have sold out of my coops and am awaiting further supplies. In the meantime, I am recommending Bill Keene's fantastic book, How to Build A Chicken Coop. This features genuinely simple-to-build plans for different sized coops and is immediately downloadable. Why not take a look? Building your own coop could be easier than you think!
How It All Started......
Earlier in the year, we made the decision to take on some ex-battery hens. After doing lots of research, reading various forums and visiting our local urban farm for some tips, we were proud to collect our 6 ladies in May. We were asked if we would mind taking a "tatty" hen. They were all fairly scruffy looking, but this one in particular was very bare and looked a bit like a mobile oven ready chicken! She was very featherbare-but what a character she is now!
It was quite upsetting to collect them-just to see the volume of hens which would otherwise have been slaughtered they hadn't been collected by the amazing Battery Hen Welfare Trust made me want to gather up a car-full and bring them all home!
My children had already named them before collection-their names are:- April, Lulu, Babs, Daphne, Geraldine and Gertrude.
When we brought them home, they were a sorry sight. We had made a makeshift pen in a quiet corner of the garden and let them have a peck around on the grass. They were very unsteady on their feet and huddled in a corner.
They spent the night in their pen. We used an old modified cattery pen which we had in the garden already.
How surprised we were the next morning when we were greeted with 4 eggs! We hadn't expected any for a few days, but they consistently lay between 5 and 6 a day.

After A Few Weeks...
Have We Made Enough Mess Yet?
Oh they can be messy! I like to allow them to free range when we're about. They race out of their pen and LOVE to dig in the borders! The picture above was taken in early June when I'd just planted some new bedding plants! You can guess what happened to them!
I'm So Pleased We Did It!
They are totally unconcerned with our 4 cats, who are actually quite scared of them. In fact we all laughed when we found Lulu (the original featherless hen who is on the small picture after growing some of her feathers back!) perched precariously on a propped-up broom handle in the utility room, eating the cat food whilst the hungry cats sat around, looking bemused.

- We are looking to get one of these runs in time for christmas (we do realise we may have left it a little late but we thought we'd give it a shot anyway). We live in Bath so collection in the Bristol area wouldn't be a problem. I'll call you tomorrow and hope for the best. Many thanks
