Buy a Star in the Sky

I think when I was growing up I had heard somewhere that you could buy a star. But I didn't know how you could do it. I always loved studying the constellations when I was a kid and spent a lot of time dreaming about the different mythological animals and gods that formed patterns in the sky. Stars were mystical, magical, and way too far away.

A couple of years ago I was going through a tough time with my boyfriend. We were going through some serious growing pains. Deep down I felt like we might be soulmates but I wanted to be sure. We were having financial troubles and differences of opinion and I was afraid they were going to ruin our relationship.

That Valentine's Day came around, and I was dreading it. There's nothing worse than feeling like you're going to break up on the day that's supposed to be the most romantic time of the year.

My boyfriend told me he wanted to take me out to dinner, and he surprised me by taking me to a really beautiful restaurant complete with expensive wine, candles, white tablecloths - you name it. I couldn't figure it out. What were we doing here when it seemed like any minute we were going to break up?

At dinner he presented me with surprise gift. No, it wasn't an engagement ring. And I'm glad. I wasn't ready for that!

What he told me was very sweet. He said that even though we had had some growing pains recently he felt like we were meant to be together. He said he really appreciated how supportive I'd been through his recent career change and problems with his family. He said, "Through it all, you've been my guiding star. That's why I want to give you this."

He presented me with a beautiful package and it turned out to be a star kit from the International Star Registry. He had bought me my own star! And he named it after a pet name he had given me after we first started dating. I looked at the gorgeous star chart - my map of my very own star.

That's when I KNEW we were soulmates. I knew we were meant to be together.

We've been married for three years now. The turning point when we were having troubles was when he found this super sweet way to connect me with my dreams and my hopes again - by buying me a star in the sky.
