Loudon County, Virginia is known for its world-renowned wineries and has the highest median household income of any county in the United States as of 2007. Four clusters of boutique wineries are set against a backdrop of gorgeous vineyards and rolling hills. It is the fourth fastest-growing county in the United States, having had a 78% population increase between 2000 and 2009. It was the most populous county in Virginia by the time of the American Revolution! This county is steeped in American history from the Revolutionary War era through the Civil war era. President James Monroe retired to Loudoun County after serving as our Fifth Commander in Chief. The county also offers an array of private non-denominational day schools, a K-8 Roman Catholic day school in Ashburn called St. Theresa School, and a day and boarding school for girls, called the Foxcroft School, located in Middleburg. Just 25 miles away, Loudoun County is also considered part of the Washington, D.C. metro area.On August 10th, 2010, Loudoun County received an achievement award from the Virginia Association of Counties for their Homeless Services Center, recognizing it as a model local government program.
