Metro-Area Fauquier County

Fauquier County, Virginia is located in the metro area of Washington, D.C. This county is deeply entrenched in Civil War history, and there are many guided tours and museums to describe it. Fauquier is known for hunting and for wineries, and is famous for its horse farms and acres upon acres of gorgeous farmland, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was established on May 1st, 1759 from Prince William County, and is named for Francis Fauquier, then-Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia--who, according to legend, won the land in a poker game!

Fast-Growing Loudoun County

D.C.'s Wine Country.

Loudon County, Virginia is known for its world-renowned wineries and has the highest median household income of any county in the United States as of 2007. Four clusters of boutique wineries are set against a backdrop of gorgeous vineyards and rolling hills. It is the fourth fastest-growing county in the United States, having had a 78% population increase between 2000 and 2009. It was the most populous county in Virginia by the time of the American Revolution! This county is steeped in American history from the Revolutionary War era through the Civil war era. It was hugely important during the Civil War as the site of the Battles of Balls Bluff, Aldie, Middleburg and Upperville. President James Monroe retired to Loudoun County after serving as our Fifth Commander in Chief. Loudoun County is served by the 11th highest ranking public school district in the United States in terms of educational achievement versus funds spent, also as of 2007. The county also offers an array of private non-denominational day schools, a K-8 Roman Catholic day school in Ashburn called St. Theresa School, and a day and boarding school for girls, called the Foxcroft School, located in Middleburg. Just 25 miles away, Loudoun County is also considered part of the Washington, D.C. metro area.

On August 10th, 2010, Loudoun County received an achievement award from the Virginia Association of Counties for their Homeless Services Center, recognizing it as a model local government program.

Educational Prince William County

Prince William County, Virginia, has an incredible abundance of national parks and museums. The famed Prince William Forest Park is the largest protected natural area in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region at over 19,000 acres! The Prince William County public school system consists of around 62 elementary, 15 middle, and 12 public high schools, as well as a virtual high school, two traditional schools, five special education schools, and two alternative schools. The school district has their own television station, PWCS-TV.
