I've been buying and selling at auctions for a long time, initially in the real world and then online. Penny Auctions

Penny AuctionsA number of us got together a while back to run a promotion we hoped would bring eyes to alternative (to eBay) online auctions sites.

We tried. We offered perfectly good items at a start bid of just 1 penny and with no reserves on those items. As sellers on small sites, we wanted to see if we could attract customers through promoting these Penny Auctions across the web and, hopefully, make some of the traffic stick as we raised awareness of the many auction sites which exist on the internet.

Perhaps it was brave, perhaps it was foolhardy, but we tried.

You will hear of a different type of Penny Auction, a kind we definitely don't approve of. I added a newsfeed to this lens to highlight some of the problems with "Penny Auctions" as they operate more like a form of gambling ... and we all know that, when it comes to gambling, the house always wins.

A Cautionary Tale

You need to be extremely careful with your information when shopping online. Protect your computer first and then guard your passwords or you could find yourself in big trouble.

There are always greedy people willing to put in the time to try an con you out of your account details in the hope they can either use your account for their own purposes or relieve you of all your money.

    I only used ebay when it started just to get the hang of this new marketing model but I lost interest afterwards as I did not want to spend more or to package things to ship. Now that I am in Cambodia that really limited my auction involvement.
