The Importance of Neighbours When Buying a House

Ranked #22,335 in Home & Garden, #333,288 overall

Some new home buyers get so caught up in their idea of a perfect home and forget the next most important thing - the neighbours. This lens will discuss the importance of your neighbours when deciding to settle in a home.
When you buy a home you are also committing to live next to the neighbours on each side of it. While the home might seem like your dream come true, the neighbours could be a living nightmare. If you talk to them before you sign the contract, you'll get a better idea of what sort of people you could be living next to for the next several years. Some people are angry and hostile for no apparent reason. Neighbours like that can make your life miserable.
But not only is knowing what the neighbours are like important, talking to them before you purchase can alert you to potential problems with your home purchase. They may be able to tell you if the basement floods, the clay ground cracks, or if water pours through the property from the back - all problems that the seller could have conveniently forgotten.
Neighbours can also tell you things about the location; the other neighbours - e.g. do they all get on; the crime rate and nuisance factors such as hoons driving around late at night, and why the owner is selling. And of course they can tell you of all the good points that you may not have noticed.

The neighbours in a land estate of your choosing can make or break what seemed like a great purchase at the time, so make sure you do your research before committing to buying land.
