Minnetonka Moccasins

Ranked #85,002 in Entertainment, #1,021,370 overall

Moccasins are the iconic footwear of the Native Americans, made of soft leather. They are great because they provide protection for your feet while allowing you to feel the ground your tread on, allowing you to keep in touch with the earth, so to speak. Historically, even frontiersmen exploring the New World wore moccasins, borrowing the techniques shared by the native tribesmen. Today, you may not need to feel the earth to watch for prey or potential dangers, but the sheer comfort of moccasins make them valuable. When it comes to moccasins for the modern man, woman, or child, Minnetonka Moccasins are tops.

What is a Moccasin?

A moccasin is a shoe that is soft on top and at the sides and either "soft" or "hard" at the sole. Traditionally, the Native Americans of the forest wore soft-soled moccasins since they mostly trod on fallen leaves. The Plains tribes on the other hand favored hard-soled moccasins, since there were lots of rocks and cacti. At Minnetonka, the difference is marked by the use of either a thin rubber sole or the same material as the rest of the shoe. Regardless of which you choose you can still enjoy the comfort and flexibility of a true moccasin, only from Minnetonka Moccasins. Use hardsoles for outdoors walking and softsoles for lounging about indoors!

The Choices

At Minnetonka, you can choose from several other kinds of soles, such as driving soles, flexible rubber soles, boat soles, crepe soles, and shoefly soles. Each has advantages and disadvantages, so choose which one you need. Driving soles are great for traction on car pedals, so they are excellent for those long drives. Flexible rubber is great for walking. Boat soles are the sturdiest, and can grip wet surfaces better than other soles. Crepe soles provide some protection from the ground. Finally, shoefly soles give you a small amount of traction.

The Different Types

Minnetonka moccasins also come in various types of leather. You can choose from cowhide, deerhide, moosehide, lariat, suede, shearling, and ruff. Cowhide is the most common type of leather. Deerhide is the "original" material used by many of the Native American, with maximum softness, and it can stretch to fit wider feet. Moosehide is is Minnetonka's number 1 seller, because it is soft yet tougher than deerskin. Suede is velvety and not very durable, but its look and feel makes it popular. Ruff is like suede, but with a little more body, and will actually look better with age. Lastly, "shearling" is sheepskin, which is more breathable than other leathers and can wick moisture.
