Techno Music
The futuristic sound of Techno was created in the late 1970's by the German band Kraftwerk and influenced a generation of artists in several genres. Using mostly synthesized and computer generated sounds, Kraftwerk forged a very unusual sound that was many years ahead of its time.
Many people mistakenly refer to electronic music in general as "Techno", but it actually refers to a specific genre of music. Other electronic music genres that are influenced by Techno include House, Trance, Breakbeat, and Electro.
In America, Techno grew into its own genre in the 80's with the help of some talented young artists in Detroit. Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, and Derrick May are considered to be the founding fathers of Detroit Techno and are known as "The Belleville Three." These artists were inspired by an influential DJ named Charles "The Electrifying Mojo" Johnson who showcased the new sound on his radio show.
More Techno artists emerged from the rave scene of the 90's and even more are continuing to push the boundries of electronic music technology today. The low cost and availabilty of these musical tools has spawned a new breed of Techno artists with boundless creative possibilities.
