Buying a Turntable

Record turntables are still selling 25 years after the supposed demise of the LP record. 15 years after the announced"death" of 12" LP's, new record turntables are still for sale in most larger appliance stores.  Maybe this is why record turntables are outselling Zunes on the Amazon bestseller list. Not only this the Club scene has made an impact on record sales and people want to copy club DJ's. Turntables have often been a favourite of the dance and rap scene and as this music is more popular at the moment so the sales of turntables has increased.

 

Modern record turntables have direct electrical output, which can be used directly for digitisation without the need for microphones, although a turntable pre-amplifier will be required. Although conventional phonograph record turntables are usually provided with a rubber mat having concentric cicular grooves or ridges on its upper surface, such rubber mats are obviously not adapted to ensure uniform supporting contact with the undersurface of a record over the entire area of the latter when the record is substantially warped or distorted.  Further, although the existing rubber mats on phonograph record turntables are intended to absorb vibrations transmitted to the turntable, for example, by the drive assembly for the latter, such rubber mats do not fully absorb the vibrations which are transmitted to the record and then picked up by the cartridge which thereby reproduce corresponding noise signals.
