Fishing for Bass with a Buzzbait lure.

Get a buzz...

The buzzbait is one of the most exciting lures to fish in the box. Early in the morning, late in the day - throw it out anywhere you suspect a big lunker may be lurking.

It consists of a wire body, a rubber-legged skirt and a large propeller-like blade that churns the surface of the water. Some blades are plastic but most will tell you they like the metal blades better. As long as it spins and thrashes and creates a lot of attention.

Which might sound counterintuitive. I can remember Grandpa admonishing me to "be quiet" or "stay still in the boat." There is nothing quiet or stealthy about the buzzbait. It's built to get attention by both sound and sight. The rubber skirt and the small body it covers can be found in a variety of bass attracting colors.

Using a Buzzbait

As easy as casting it out.

Getting started with a buzzbait is as easy as casting it out to shallow-water or cover and reeling it back in, keeping it on the surface. The strike usually comes within the first 10 yards of the retrieve.

Like all surface type lures give the fish a one or two count after the strike before setting the hook. The strike will be exciting and sometimes violent and quick reactions might find you yanking the bait right out of the fish's mouth.

Buzzbaits are best during low-light hours of the day any time the water temperature is higher than 70 degrees, but they can catch fish any time of day. Examples of buzzbaits include the Booyah Buzz, Strike King Pro Buzz, Lunker Lure Buzzbaits, and Terminator brands.

Hi, fishing is a small hobby for our family, mostly because we enjoy to eat fish ;) But my husband's favorite fishing is ice fishing. Why anyone in there right mind would love sitting out in the middle of a frozen lake in the winter is beyond me, ;) but I do admit, the fish taste best then. BTW, I got here from twitter, thanks for the follow! I also have a fishing lens, Fishing - Hobby or Sport? :)
