Have you ever ran into a friend that you have not seen in five, ten, or (dare to admit it?) fifteen years and found that they are doing something that just amazes you? In the past year or so I have been catching up with a friend who has become an incredible photographer. Every time I visit his site I am struck by the ability to tell a such a detailed story by freezing a moment in time; a glance, a smile, a crowded street, a little girl's wonder.

English, Rugby and Wedding Photography

Ben's a friend of mine from back in the day. He was a great guy all the years ago when I knew him in high school and I can tell from his photos and my correspondence with him that he still is. I keep promising to catch up in person and meet his lovely wife and baby girl but it hasn't worked out that way just yet. He wasn't "in love with photography" in high school but he did see things in his own way and did not shy away from that. I will always remember him being asked about the most beautiful thing he had seen on the weekend by our English teacher, and without hesitation he described a set play the Wallabies* executed, in intricate detail, with an understanding of beauty beyond his years and beyond that which many reach in their lifetime. I will remember this forever because it was one of those moments when I realised that my perspective was not universal and I was shocked and moved by that at the same time; it took my breath away.

Did It Start With A Love Story? Probably...

I read in a blog post that Ben met Jodie in 1999 or maybe that was when he bought his first camera or perhaps it was both I cannot seem to find it now, regardless a few years later his best friend became his wife. They are the Byron Bay Wedding Photographers this lens is dedicated to. The ability to capture people as they are in a moment in time reminds me of Keats Ode On A Grecian Urn which incidentally is probably what we were studying when he was asked the question about beauty. I guarantee you that if you have time and follow the link above that at least one of the photos you will find there will whisper to you about beauty and truth and take your breath away.
