Cabbage Patch Kids Pop n Style Kid: A parent's review

Christmas of 2009 I got a Cabbage Patch Kids Pop n Style Kid from my mama. As a child I loved my Cabbage Patch Kids Dolls, and as an adult they became a symbol of my childhood. My mama knew how much I loved Cabbage Patch Dolls, so it was a special gift.

At first I left her in the box, but I couldn't resist it for long, Immediately my son took her and started playing with her. I lost my doll, but I have gained an endless amount of joy from both playing with and watching my son play with our Cabbage Patch Kids Pop n Style Kid.

Dolls in general are a great teaching tool, but the Cabbage Patch Kids Pop n Style Kid has a few extras that can improve your child's physical, mental, and emotional development.

Physical Development

~ Dress and undress your doll. It can help your toddler improve small motor skills. At first your child will need help, but the more they practice, the more their dexterity improves. The Cabbage Patch Kids Pop n Style Kid has hair accessories that can be moved around, this too will help your child develop small motor skills.

Mental Development

~ Name the doll's body parts. Naming body parts will teach your child about their own body. It will also help them improve their vocabulary. For older toddlers you can ask questions like "Where it the doll's foot?" and make simple commands like "Show me the doll's stomach.".

~ Name the doll's clothing and accessories The same as with the body parts you can ask questions and make simple commands about the doll's clothes, shoes, and hair accessories.

~ Play pretend with the doll Play different pretend games with your child and the doll. You can play mommy and baby or daddy and baby, doctor and patient, nurse and patient, teacher and student, and many other pretend scenarios. Let your child take the lead and he or she may very well surprise you.

~ Have your child tell the doll a story. They can tell them the story or they can look in a book and tell a familiar story to the doll by telling about the pictures in the book, or from their memory of having the book read to them.

Emotional Development

~ Your child could bond with the doll. Your child will most likely bond with their doll and begin mimicking behavior of loved ones with their doll. They will hug and cuddle their doll, tuck them in, feed them, and could even have them go to the potty. Sometimes your toddler may even reprimand their doll by putting them in a time out. This can be quite comical, but if you can keep your composure enough to talk to your toddler you may learn that he or she is learning right from wrong and what is expected of them. My son told me not too long ago that his doll made a mess and had to go to time out. From that I deducted that he knew making a mess was wrong and that he understood there were consequences for his actions. Toddlers mimic their environments so that they can better understand and learn where their place is in that environment.

Each Cabbage Patch Kids Pop n Style Kid comes with clothes, a diaper, shoes, and hair accessories.

The hair extensions pop in and out of different holes in her head which allow your child to change her hair style. These extensions can also be left out of her head for a more traditional hair style.

The doll smells like a real baby, or more like baby powder, but the smell is very pleasant. When my son smelled our doll he had to smell her over and over again.

The diaper has traditional diaper closures, so purchasing a velcro diaper or additional diapers would be ideal if you are going to allow your child to change the diaper.
