Cabbage Soup Diet - Introduction
This diet is geared to short term weight loss. Good for people who want to chase off those last few pounds before summer or prom nites. This diet is low in fat but extremely high in fiber. And cabbage is a negative calorie ingredient. Your body need a lot of calories to digest cabbage compared to the calories that cabbage provides.
Cabbage Soup Diet History
Cabbage Soup Diet is a fad diet which relies heavily on cabbage soup to lose weight. The basic principle is that cabbage, being negative calories ingredient, will burn off the calories inside your body through eating. Negative calories means that the calories contained inside partciular foods are so low that your body will need more calories to digest it.Cabbage soup diet also relies on heavily regulated meals plan to control your calories intake. Basically it cuts everything beside your cabbage soup and a few vegetables.
The more soup you eat the more weight you should lose. This diet is popular because it allows people to eat soup as much as they want everyday. Unlike other diet which restrict the eating habit, this diet sounds appealing to a lot of people. And it does sound like heaven, doesn't it ? Eat as much as you want and lose weight !
This diet was rumored to be a diet for hospital patients. However no hospitals claimed to be the inventors of this diet. That roused a lot of suspicion that this diet was actually not healthy. Well, using common sense we can see that this diet cannot be healthy.
Since you are forced to live on soup and a few vegetables. You will be lacking nutritions everyday. However weight loss is thing that a lot of people are dying for. So this diet still gained popularity despite its dodgy nature.
Cabbage Soup Diet Recipe
-6 large green onions
-2 green peppers
-2 cans of tomatoes (diced)
-3 Carrots
-10 oz Mushrooms
-1 cup of celery
-half a head of cabbage
-1 package Lipton soup mix
-Salt, pepper and oregano
Instructions:
Mix all the ingredients with water in a large kettle.
Heat and boil them until all ingredietns are tender (approximately 90 minutes). Put the tomatoes and seasonings afterwards.
Pros and Cons
Pro's and Con's of cabbage soup diet
Weak feeling, especially if you try this diet for more than 7 days.
You will emit a lot of gas.
You need to stay near bathroom.
Not healthy and not a long term solution.
Lack of concentration ability.
Pro's:
Short term solution which really works.
The soup can taste good if you put enough soup broth.
Good for cleansing your body.
Cabbage is rich in many nutrients and vitamin.
Cabbage Soup Diet Meal Plan
Consume at least 8 glasses of water everyday!
Day 1: Consume the soup as much as you want, eat only fruits, except banana, and drink tea and water.
Day 2: Only vegetables and soups allowed, no fruits. Eat 1 baked potato during the night.
Day 3: Only vegetables, fruits and soup. Nothing else.
Day 4: Only bananas and cabbage soup.
Day 5: Eat 300 - 500g of beef and cabbage soup.
Day 6: Still the same with day 5.
Day 7: Brown rice, cabbage soup and fruits.
