Is Cabbage a super food

As Americans we don't usually eat cabbage like the rest of the world. Did you know cabbage can be a very good healing food? Before I got married the only way I had cabbage was either coleslaw for my barbecue or hot dogs. Yeah I'm southern deep to the bone. I had no idea cabbage has as many healing aspects as it does. The health benefits of cabbage are Alzheimer's disease, aging, arthritis, constipation, eczema, excess weight, eye disorders, gout, headache, heart diseases, jaundice, rheumatism, scurvy, skin disorders, and stomach ulcers. The newest thing out, is recent studies suggest that cabbage may be in a class by itself. According to the American Association for Cancer Research found that Polish women who ate cabbage and sauerkraut (both can be applied to hot dogs) four or more times a week were 74 percent less likely to develop breast cancer. That's incredible percentage maybe that's why Americans have the highest percentage of breast cancer. There are side effects for this super food it's, flatulence (woo... What's that smell?). All kidding aside I would be more than willing to put with the smell if there are more breasts around. Breast cancer is so awful because it has devastating effects on women both physically and mentally.I hope your truly learned that eating cabbage pays off.

Now that we know the importance of cabbage lets eat some and since its spring time. You should have your grill out already.I have some fantastic recipes to get you started. Maybe you like to share some of your own.

On my mind

Something has been on my mind ever since I wrote "cabbage the super food". It's about breast cancer. So I want to share a few things I learned about this great vegetable.Cabbage is the best overall preventative and cancer killing cells. On top of that list too is pomegranates it contain a compound that eats breast cancer cells. The most powerful form of it is the oil from seed, but you get the effects from eating the fruit or drinking the juice, too. It's extra powerful when it has been fermented. That is right sauerkraut and Korean kimchee (spicy fermented cabbage). Some kimchee can get really really hot. The best place for you to find it is at Asian market and if you're not sure which one to buy asks someone there they will help you out. Some really good and some are really bad to our American pallets. I also including a breast cancer diet list it's also a prevention diet for woman. Please take this very seriously because 1 out of 8 women will have breast cancer. Men did you hear that! So encourage your wives and your daughters to have regular breast exams and eat cabbage. I hope to lower these terrible odds by donating 30% of my earning on this lens to cancer and research prevention.

BBQ Cabbage

Now, I know some of you will read this and say, "yuck", but I have done this and it not only tastes good, but smells wonderful. I hope y'all like this - it is simple and easy to make.

Servings: 4-6

4 tablespoons (½ stick) butter
4 slices bacon (¼ pound) cut crosswise into ¼-inch slivers
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 medium-sized green cabbage (about 2 pounds)
¼ cup barbecue sauce
Coarse salt and black pepper (or Tony's)

Melt 1 tablespoon of the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon and onion, and cook until just beginning to brown, 3-5 minutes. Drain the bacon and onion in a strainer over a bowl, and reserve the drippings. Crumple a piece of aluminum foil and shape into a ring about 3 inches in diameter. Cut the core out of the cabbage from the root end. Angle knife down about 3 inches down from the center and cut a circle that is about 3 inches in diameter. The piece removed should look like a cone. Cut the remaining butter into dice. Stir the barbecue sauce into the bacon-and-onion mixture. Prop the cabbage upright on the aluminum foil ring, cavity facing up. Place the bacon and onion mixture in the cavity and top with as many pieces of the bacon as will fit. Using a basting brush, paint the outside of the cabbage with the bacon drippings. Season the cabbage lightly with salt and generously with pepper. (Shockingly, I used Tony's for this.)

Set up the grill for indirect grilling and pre-heat to medium. (On a gas grill, just turn off one side of grill.) If using a gas grill, place a generous handful of presoaked wood chips in a smoker box, or wrap one up with aluminum foil and place on grates. Preheat oven to high until you see smoke, then reduce the heat to medium.

When ready to cook, place the cabbage on its aluminum foil ring in the center of the hot grate, away from the heat. If using a charcoal grill, toss all the wood chips on the coals and cover the grill.

Grill the cabbage until very tender (when done it will be easy to pierce with a skewer) 1-1½ hours. If using a charcoal grill, you'll need to add 12 fresh coals per side after 1 hour, if the cabbage is not done.

To serve, peel off any dried-out or charred outside leaves and discard. Cut the cabbage into wedges and serve.

Note: It doesn't call for it, but I had good luck wrapping the whole thing up in aluminum foil. It steamed better and the result was much more even. Also, I cooked this in the oven and it worked as good as cooking it outside.
