Who are Cable & Deadpool?
Cable and Deadpool are a regular 'odd couple'. Cable's trying to save the world, and Deadpool is sometimes unwittingly persuaded to lend a hand. To say that both characters have a complicated history is a massive understatement, but for the sake of completeness here is the CliffsNotes version.Cable
Cable's real name is Nathan Dayspring Askani'son Summers, and is the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey). Cable, grew up in the future and knowing what the future could potentially be, is trying to make the world a better place. Cable was born with vast telepathic and telekinetic abilities, which were limited by his need to restrain his techno-organic infection. His techno-organic augmentation has given him some enhanced strength and eyesight.
Deadpool
Deadpool's real name is Wade Wilson (aka. 'the merc with a mouth'), a mercenary for hire, and like Wolverine, a subject of the Weapon X experiment. Deadpool volunteered for Weapon X in a hope that the procedure would cure his cancer. Whilst it succeeded in that respect, giving him a healing factor similar to Wolverine, the downside was that the cancer reacted with the procedure unexpectedly causing his mind and his body to constantly heal itself. This left him disfigured, and slightly unhinged. For a full run down of Deadpool checkout the Deadpool Lens. Deadpool first appeared in New Mutants #98 that also featured Cable.

Cable & Deadpool Vol. 1: If Looks Could Kill
Cable & Deadpool Vol. 1: If Looks Could Kill collects issues #1-6 and provides the story for how the two characters are brought together. It begins with Deadpool on his couch watching TV. He's hired by "The One World Church" to steal a virus that will allow the church to turn everyone in the world blue. Meanwhile, Cable is doing some thinking, trying to figure out what he can do, using his recently enhanced powers, to help make the world a better place.Things get weird when Cable and Deadpool cross paths at "The One World Church" where they are both infected by the blue virus. Cable absorbs Deadpool in order to take advantage of Deadpool's healing factor so he can survive. It gets weirder when Cable throw's up Deadpool, resulting in the two mixing their DNA. Cable then takes control of the virus and decides to use it to turn the world pink. After a few days, Cable returns the world back to normal, and steps forward to take credit for the saving the world, calling himself the worlds "Saviour".
Cable rebuilds his space station base, Greymalkin, and his teleportation system, however due to he and Deadpool having mixed their DNA, both Cable and Deadpool can now teleport, however, when one does, it takes the other with them. Like it or not, the two characters are thrown together.
Cable & Deadpool Vol. 2: The Burnt Offering
Cable & Deadpool Vol. 2: The Burnt Offering collects issues #7-12, that essentially cover two story arcs. The first, issues #7-10 (sometimes referred to as "The Passion of the Cable"), continues on from volume 1, with Cable determined to improve the world. Cable renames the recently rebuilt Greymalkin Providence, and declares it a state of it's own. Cable invites the worlds top scientists and philosophers to live on his island of Providence, which draws the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D. He goes on to deliberately antagonise the world's leaders by threatening to throw all of their missiles into the sun. S.H.I.E.L.D are not the only group growing nervous as a result of Cable's actions. The X-Men, led by Cable's father Cyclops, hire Deadpool to collect pieced of a mini-teleporter that they can use to stop Cable. The mini-teleporter in hand, the X-Men attack Providence. During the siege, Cable confesses to Deadpool that he wanted the world to band together to stop him, in order to set an example as to how the world can work together as one. Cable is injured when the Silver Surfer enters the fray, and Cable asks Deadpool to lobotimize him with the mini-teleporter, in order to prevent him burning out the way the X-Man (X-Man, was Nate Grey, Cable's genetic twin from the 'Age of Apocalypse') had.
Issues #11-12, sometimes referred to as "Thirty Pieces", follows Deadpool on his quest to save Cable's life. Deadpool confront MODOK and obtains a techno-organic alien, that he gives the Fixer in the hope that he'll be able to save Cable. Agent X pops up to fight Deadpool, with Agent X having been hired by a religious group to track down Deadpool and prevent the "resurrection" of Cable. With the alien graft successful, Cable is able to heal himself, however remains largely de-powered.
