Cabo Pulmo Baja Mexico
The beach resort of Cabo Pulmo, located in the fantastic Baja, Mexico is a quiet beach village and Marine Park that can be found approximately sixty miles north of Cabo San Lucas located on the Sea of Cortez and approximately forty miles north from San Jose del Cabo, which is found on the eastern cape of the Baja peninsula. The Baja peninsula is known as the interactive peninsula as it offers stunning abundant growth of coral on beautiful rocky reefs that attract beautiful reef fishes, providing shelter and food for these incredible animals.
Anyone who has an interest in Mexican culture, beautiful scenery, sports attractions like big game fishing or scuba diving, or a wide range of unique, colorful fish and wildlife is urged to explore all of the possibilities that this great destination on Baja offers to its visitors.
Travel and Getting There
Cabo Pulmo is only a single hour drive away from the renowned San Jose Del Cabo Airport. Simply head south away from La Ribera. This stunning coastal road will be paved for a short distance, and then eventually rolls out into dirt. The unpaved portion of this stretch which is around 16.5 miles between La Ribera and Cabo Pulmo Beach is typically in fair condition, making it easily to travel from one place to the other and to reach the Cabo Pulmo area in most conditions.
Scuba Diving
The clear waters of Cabo Pulmo offer some of the best diving and snorkeling in all of Baja, as it offers the only living coral reef in all of Western North America. Some of the reef fishes found here are not found anywhere else in the world. The water is rich in nutrients, which provides the food for a vast network of fishes, invertebrates, birds and mammals, making the Sea of Cortez one of the most productive waters in the entire world.
If you have an interest in beautiful, colorful reef fishes that you may not be able to find anyplace else, then Cabo Pulmo is an ideal diving destination location because it will allow you to interact with an extremely productive reef and a number of fishes that simply cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
There are opportunities to reach good diving and snorkeling from both the shore and by boat. The area offers everything from wreck diving to caves for all experience levels. Visibility ranges from 60 to 100+ feet, and the water temperatures range from 70 in the winter, to 80+ in the summer months. There are three primary dive shop in the area, Cabo Pulmo Divers, Pepe's Dive Center, and Beach Resort Sports. The shops are easy to find once you arrive. The all offer air fills, rental gear, and guide services. There is always someone at the dive shop that speaks English so communication is no problem. Its always a good idea to let the shop know what type of experience you would like to have in advance. Swim with a Whale Shark, shoot a Dorado, macro photography on the reef or just enjoy!
The resorts near the Cabo Pulmo Marine Park are also known for providing outstanding big game fishing, privately owned restaurants that service incredible, tasty Mexican food, and miles of secluded coves and private beaches.
Fishing
The Sea of Cortez off of Cabo Pulmo have gained significantly notoriety for the big game fishing opportunities that it offers. The entire area surrounding Cabo Pulmo is an attractive area for fish of all kinds, which means that in areas designated for fishing, tourists can take advantage of some truly incredible fishing opportunities that allow them to catch some truly big game.
Local fishing guides are available at the main beach area and landing. The Panga is the boat of choice and is the ideal way to experience fishing the calm waters in the Sea of Cortez. Panga's are perfect for two fisherman (plus a guide an maybe a helper) and are inexpensive. It is best to arrange the details the day prior to fishing including price, the type of experience you would like to have, and the gear you want on hand.
Accommodations
There are a variety of lodging opportunities and rentals available in the Cabo Pulmo area. It is best to decide your comfort level and budget prior to securing your accommodations and get your questions answered. If you travel in the summer, you will most likely want air conditioning in at least the sleeping area. Here are some ideas to guide you in your search:

Restaurants
There are a variety of restaurants offered in and around Cabo Pulmo. The most notable restaurants in this offering are three privately owned Mexican restaurants that serve tasty and authentic food traditional in Mexico that will absolutely blow your mind.
The town of Cabo Pulmo only features what it needs, including a single cantina, a single general store, a handful of tourist shops, and a number of exceptional restaurants that establish its position as a tourist stop destination. These four restaurants are El Caballero, Tito's Bar, Nancy's, Juan's Tacos "La Palapa". The best restaurant value in the area is the El Caballero restaurant, that offers tasty fare at affordable prices. Juan's Tacos offers the best location as it is situated right on the beach and has an open and airy atmosphere. The Nancy's restaurant has a nice and quaint ambiance and atmosphere, but offers slightly steeper prices.
Weather
The weather in the Southern Baja region and around Cabo Pulmo are ideal pretty much all year long, with light winds ranging from around 8 miles per hour and 20 miles per hour.
The winter temperatures tend to range in the sixties at night, and mid to upper 70's during the daytime. Water temperatures almost never drop under 70 degrees.
In the summer months the temperatures can go as high as the 90's and evenings drop to the upper 70's. The temperature of the ocean is in the mid 80's during the summer months.
The median temperature on the coast and around Cabo Pulmo is still around the mid to slightly higher sixties.
The weather in and around Cabo Pulmo beach areas are absolutely ideal for many of the activities that Cabo Pulmo is known for. For example, if you want to surf, snorkel, scuba dive, or fish for big game, the clear weather and perfect temperatures are absolutely perfect.
Shopping
The East Cape region of the Baja Peninsula is rich with culture and offers a unique shopping experience for tourists visiting the area. Some shopping, like grocery shopping, is best done in the San Jose Del Cabo area, but souvenir shopping can be experienced in the resort area, where plenty of bungalow-based gift shopping is offered to those who want to bring home a taste of the beautiful life and rustic style of the region.
Cabo Pulmo has a sleepy, rustic village atmosphere that is ideal for shopping. Visitors to this stunning area can spend hours exploring a variety of different types of shops catering to tourists by offering unique souvenir gifts to meet a variety of tastes and styles.
