The 80's classic movie Caddyshack is one of the funniest and most often quoted comedies of all time. It's not hard to imagine why when you have a bunch of goofball teenagers, a mechanical gopher, and four comedy legends. You know the story; a young caddy, Danny Noonan, is struggling to get into law school but is further confused as he searches for a mentor to help him reach his goal. Should he take the advice of zen golfer, Ty Webb (Chevy Chase), who instructs Danny to just go with the flow? Or, should he pander to Judge Smails (Ted Knight), Bushwood Country Club's founder, top dog, and ultimate cheapskate to get the caddy scholarship? Enter Al Czervik (Rodney Dangerfield), real estate millionare and loud mouthed agitator to save the day by using one of Danny's best skills, golfing. In the middle, you have deranged and shellshocked assistant greenskeeper Carl Spackler (Bill Murray) going to battle with a mechanical gopher hell bent on destroying the golf course. Oh What Fun!
What makes the movie so successful is the contrasting styles of all four comic legends. Ty Webb is cool, Judge Smails is uptight, Al Czervick is obnoxious, and Carl Spackler is crazy. Harold Ramis allows his talent to go off script and ends up with some of the funniest improvisational scenes in film history. If you have the DVD, make sure you watch the making of Caddyshack as you will learn some real cool and surprising facts about this comedy classic. The one thing, however, that makes Caddyshack stand out among other comedies are the amount of memorable quotes. "Gunga Galunga", "Cinderella Story", "Na na na na na na na na na", "Billy Baroo. Oh Billy, Billy, Billy", "Miss it! Noonan!", "Did somebody step on a duck?"; just to name a few.
