It's All About The Schnauzers!

I work in miniature schnauzer rescue. I adore the Miniature Schnauzer and love to feature it in my artwork which is sold on my Cafe Press stuff to benefit our rescue's vet expenses fund.

The furkids shown in the photo are (left to right) Bailey, Winnie (my grandpuppy), Koby, SueSu, Harry (a/k/a Peanut), Whizzer, Scrappy Jack, Sparky (a/k/a Pookie) and Monty (a/k/a Monty Rat).

Since 2000, we have rescued, rehabilitated and placed 23 miniature schnauzers for adoption. Right now we have eight furkids here - at Christmas I jokingly called them the "eight tiny reindeer!" A new rescue Bailey joined us almost a year ago when we were leaving Nebraska. He is a serious biter when he is groomed but he has made some good progress as he learns to trust me. Otherwise he's an awesome dog!

Koby and Whizzer joined us last summer for boarding and stayed on as owner surrenders. Koby and I have fallen "in love" so he is staying as my permanent furkid. Whizzer is available for adoption now! He is such a funny little guy and just a luv, only 7 years young

Gretel SueSu is now 16 months old and one spoiled cookie!

All of the dogs adore it here at the new farm and we love being here.

You wouldn't believe how many purebred dogs end up in rescue for various reasons - the most common is that people's living situations change and there is no room for Fido anymore, sadly.  Some dogs come to us with behavioral issues or health issues that can be improved and then we can find the RIGHT forever home to match the furkid with.

Our work is not a fast process. The average dog spends 3 weeks to 6 months or longer in my home before being placed in its forever home. We won't place a dog just anywhere, it has to be the right match.

Some dogs are just un-placeable and end up spending their lives with me. My first rescue, Casey Anne O'Schnauzey, was 9 years old and half blind when she was rescued and ended up spending five years with me. Most people don't want to adopt older dogs because they fear expensive vet care, messes, and other issues. This may be true in some cases, but the dog still has so much love to offer in return. They are WORTH it!
