Does owning a motorcycle make you a biker? Is biker is someone who love riding, being in the wind and who ride often. We know the stereotypes... but who are today's bikers? They're working people. White collar, blue collar, brown collar! Homeowners, board members, CIO's, actors, musicians, cops, janitors, construction workers... regular everyday working people.

They ride Harleys, Yamaha's, Honda's and every other kind of motorcycle of all sizes. Some ride choppers, some ride cruisers, some ride bobbers and others ride bikes right off the showroom. There are more ladies on bikes than any other time in history and some of them are on big "guy" bikes. School teachers, grandma's, moms, lawyers, clerks. administrators, and every other kind of woman is riding her own motorcycle. Biker babes, bitches, women who ride, lady riders, whatever you call them they ride and ride often. And that's the key to being a biker.

How often do you ride? As often as you can, to work, every weekend, evenings after work? Every freakin chance you get? The freedom, the wind, the peace... that's what riding is all about. We hear a lot that it's not the destination but the ride and for bikers, that's true. Bikers will ride over 100 miles just for lunch... it's the ride.

There are those who got a Harley and parked it in the garage and only take it out once in a while, when they feel like it or to get it serviced or something shiny added to it but rarely ride and when they do, it's not very far. Maybe they ride 500 miles a year maybe a 1,000. It's all about being cool. They have a thin leather jacket, a fashionable one that looks good with their designer jeans. They've got fancy boots, some have real motorcycle boots and often they say Harley on them... but they're not scraped up at all. Yea you know what I'm talking about! Instead of riding to a simi local run they trailer their bikes in and then ride them around town.

Sometimes trailering a bike into a rally is necessary but these riders do it for convenience so they don't have to bare the weather or roads which is the best part of riding. Is the latter a biker or a motorcycle enthusiast? In my opinion.... A biker is on their bike every chance they get. They may not be going anyplace in particular because they are right where they want to be. On that bike, face in the wind, riding.

Todays bikers are people just like everyone else. They work, own homes, pay taxes and obey the laws just like the rest of the good people in this country. The only difference is they have a love affair with riding thier motorcycles. We still have the minority of bikers, called 1%'ers who may or may not be law abiding citizens. There are notorious motorcycle gangs, aka: clubs who have reputations for all kinds of things but they are the minority. And I have to say that I've partied and ridden with some of those 1%'ers and they were alright people who I would trust my life to.

As gasoline prices go up more people, men and women, are buying motorcycles than in any time in the past. I've never seen so many bikes on the road. I hope that means that more and more people are finding out how beautiful it is to ride and feel the freedom.
