A Lens for CafePress Shopkeepers
If you are not a CafePress shopkeeper, you are more than welcome to read this lens, but it might not make sense to you.
This lens is intended to show CafePress shopkeepers how to do a lens about their shop, and add links which will benefit both the shopkeeper and Squidoo.
This is to build good karma between the CafePress shopkeeper and the universe, higher power, or whatever the shopkeeper may believe in.
Adding Some Zip
so you don't get zapped!
What is a CafePress shopkeeper to do? I mean, the idea is to sell YOUR design, on ANY product you offer, not just the 5 you are allowed to show per module.
And, you really do not want to add ALL the items in your shop, as that would just be a bit much on download time for the poor Squidoo server.
And, it would be ever-so-nice if potential customers could actually SEE your actual design.
That's where the WONDERFUL "Write (And Add A Photo)" module comes in.
Simply go to "Add Modules", choose the "Write (And Add A Photo)". Then click "save".
I am assuming you have thumbnails of each of your designs to mark the sections of your CafePress shop. I assume you have them handy, saved in your very own handy-dandy computer.
Well, UPLOAD that thumbnail already! Just look for the bit of writing in the module that says "Upload an optional image to accompany your text." click the "Browse" button, find your thumbnail in your computer and UPLOAD your design.
Now, write a bit about the design where it says "Enter your text below. The limit is 2500 characters."
2500 characters is a LOT to say about one design. You do not need to use ALL of them, but you can if you really have that much to say.
Can't think of anything to say? Answer a FEW of these questions in a sentence or two, and you will suddenly find yourself with something to write!
1) What inspired you to create the design?
2) What do you like best about the design?
3) Is there an interesting, but short, story about the design? Tell it in a few sentences.
4) Does this design have a special meaning? Tell us about it in a few sentences.
5) What is unique about your design?
6) Who would love this design and why.

Good Linking
how to send lens viewers to a section
When you use the CafePress module, the link provided (other than the one to your actual product), shows only the shop link.
But you have so many lovely sections with so many lovely designs! How do you link to them?
EASY! First, you need to know a little HTML. Not much.
Second, Squidoo will not allow the actual code to appear. I mean, I can write it, but it will CREATE links, not the code you wish to see. Soooooooooooooo, I will fix that by using a * instead of a < and a ** instead of a >.
Code thingy:
* = <
** = >
OK, now, all you want to do is send people directly to a particular design within your shop. To do that, you need to create a link. It will look like this:
*a href="http://www.cafepress.com/YOURSHOPNAME/section_number"** MY COOL DESIGN*/a**
Change "MY COOL DESIGN" to whatever you want lens viewers to see.
Change "YOURSHOPNAME" to the actual name of your shop.
Change "section_number" to the numerical part of the URL in the section you want your visitors to go to.
That's all there is too it!
Good Karma Linking
benefit you & Squidoo
If you link ONLY as mentioned above, and a sale results, Squidoo loses the affiliate commission. And that hurts their business, their employees, the charities, and other lensmakers. This is very bad karma!
To create good karma linking, you only need to add a tiny bit to the code I gave you in the module above. This code will allow Squidoo to get its commission. You still get a sale, per CafePress' agreement with shopkeepers. And you get a portion of the affiliate fee Squidoo earns. You'll just get it from Squidoo instead of CafePress.
And, all the nice charities still get their money, and everyone else who benefits from Squidoo's wonderful service.
Each lens has a different code. I am going to tell you how to find the code for your lenses. First, you have to open a CafePress module and add the designs you want. You CANNOT get the code until you have a CafePress Module working.
Why? Because the code is not created until the module is up and running.
I created the module below, so you could see how to get the code. Take your mouse and hold it over the words "No Love Broccoli Cap"
In the bottom bar of your browser, you will see the actual link of the product. The part you want is EVERYTHING after the ? . In this case, the part you want is:
?pid=4841838&tid=cafepresslinks
That's the affiliate code that insures THIS lens gets credit for CafePress affiliate sales. Your code will be different. That's why you have to set up the CafePress module, FIRST.
Now, how to use this little bit of information. Again, EASY!
Write it down in Notepad or whatever program you have for such things. Next, ADD it to the code I gave you in the module ABOVE.
Soooooooooooo, your code USED to look like:
*a href="http://www.cafepress.com/YOURSHOPNAME/section_number"** MY COOL DESIGN*/a**
NOW, just ADD the ? and EVERYTHING after it AFTER the "section_number".
New good karma code, for THIS lens looks like this:
*a href="http://www.cafepress.com/YOURSHOPNAME/section_number?pid=4841838&tid=cafepresslinks"** MY COOL DESIGN*/a**
Remember to change the fake code here the same way you learned in the module above. AND change the part AFTER the ? to whatever yours is in your lens. If you do not, you just might give THIS lens credit for your work.
That's it! Now you are in good karmaland!
