All About Tennis

Tennis is one of the most popular individual sports in the world. In tennis the player uses a racquet to hit a ball over a net into the opponents court. The ball must be kept in play and can only bounce one time on the court surface before the opponent must strike the ball back over the net. The standard ball is made up of felt over hollow rubber. Tennis is often played with one player per side (singles) or with two players per side (doubles).

An early version of Tennis started out in the 16th century in France where players would yell "tenez" when starting a game giving the game the name Tennis. Later the game would be refined in England in the 19th century as lawn tennis to more resemble the sport we play today.

The basic equipment for the tennis player includes the racquet, the standard tennis ball, and good tennis shoes.

The racquet has a long handle with an oval at the end that is strung tightly with strings. The tennis player tries to hit the ball in the center of the strings to get the most power and control over the tennis shot. Racquets vary in head size, length and weight. To get more power use a long, heavy racquet with a large head. To get more control, try a shorter, lighter racquet with a smaller head. Each player needs to find the right combination of these features as well as the tightness of strings to suit their tennis style of play.

Great!!!    I have 2 of these and love them. With the Tennis Ball Saver, I've used the same tennis balls for months no noticeable loss in bounce. These are a must have for all tennis players and will save you lots of money on balls.

Each of the 2 original pairs are still in use but needed new ones that looked cleaner than the other ones do now. Great pair of shoes!

Here are some tips about what to do about tennis elbow.

To alleviate a temporarily sore shoulder, elbow or wrist, a player can modify their racquet to absorb vibration. Try the following:

  • String towards the lower end of the recommended tension range for your racquet. A looser string face will absorb more of the ball's impact. A looser face will also add depth to shots without a full-powered swing.

  • Try a thicker string.

  • Try adding lead tape to increase the racquet's overall mass. Adding weight will help reduce the amount of shock transmitted to the arm and hand.

  • Check with your pro to see that your grip size is correct for your hand. It may be necessary to increase or decrease the handle size. Correct grip size can be an important factor in eliminating tennis elbow.

  • Vibration dampeners generally have no effect on amount of vibration to your elbow. All they really do is make the racquet sound and feel different.

 Tennis Competition

Tennis is played by people over the world as a great form of exercise and recreation. There are also many levels of professional play in tournaments around the world. There are four top tournaments called the Grand Slam Tournaments. These are Wimbledon, the US Open, The Australian Open, and the French Open. Millions of people watch these tournaments making tennis a great spectator sport as well. Recently, tennis was added to the Olympics as an official sport.

Tennis is a sport that has transcended age groups and is enjoyed by young kids as well as senior citizens.

But tennis competition is hardest on the mind.

The mental challenges often begin with pre-match anxiety. They continue with various emotional ups and downs during the match, like going from a bad mood, losing focus and feeling frustrated ... to being anxious, nervous and angry.

Players "lose" themselves in the emotional storms of the mind and play tennis well below their potential.

tennis clothes and Apparel.

For mens Tennis players need specific clothing to meet their playing needs. Tennis shorts with pockets, polo shirts, t-shirts, warm-ups and jackets are all part of your essential tennis atire. tennis apparel for men are both functional and look good. Breathable shirts help keep you cool on the court and help reduce sweat providing more manouverability in the shoulders. Tennis shorts provide room to stretch without hindrance and the deep pockets allow you to carry tennis balls and still feel comfortable.

shoes tips for men...Some of the problems with shoes is that you grow out of them and they do wear out. you need the right shoes for the right playing surface. Tennis shoes that are not right for you may cause blisters and back pain. Worn out tennis footwear may have poor traction which may result in serious injury and may also limit your playing ability and style. Tennis shoes just like any other sports shoe will only last a season if you play on a regular basis, so make sure that your tennis shoes are in good condition before you go out.
