Caine- cutest thing ever
This is the story of how the best little American bulldog came into our lives...
The Caine story - Part 1
It all started over 5 years when I decided I wanted to buy my boyfriend Christopher the best birthday gift ever - an American bulldog puppy. I knew he wanted an all white male so I searched all over Miami for one to no avail. Finally I spoke with a breeder in Homestead named Frank who had just had 2 litters and 2 puppies were left. One was a white male with brindle patches and the other was a fawn female. The white/brindle was the smallest runt he had ever seen and the fawn female had assumed the position of his protector. He wouldn't sell them separately but instead both for the price of one. That day I brought them home and gave them to my boyfriend. He was ecstatic and instantly fell in love with Max and Lola.
The Caine story - Part 2
A few months before Lola's 1st birthday we noticed that Lola had gotten a bit fatter. She was always bigger then her "brother" Max but it was definitely a noticeable change. We thought that either we were feeding her too much, she was pregnant or had some sort of thyroid problem so we took her to the doctor. He told us that she was not pregnant and that she might have been experiencing a "faux" pregnancy. He said that it was not that uncommon for a dog to convince themselves they are pregnant and start taking on these characteristics. So we said we'd keep an eye on it but not give it too much more attention...
The Caine story - Part 3
It was the day before Christopher's mom's birthday. We lived with his parents so when they left for there annual Cancun trip we were left to watch after the house. At the time I was working the 6am shift at a hotel so I missed alot of the commotion that happened that night. It must have been about 3am- I was in a deeeep sleep when I was slightly woken up to some loud noises. I'm assuming I thought I was dreaming so I rolled over & went back to sleep. At 5:30am I woke up and started getting dressed for work when I realized my bf was no where to be found. On the floor of the living room lay Lola and 5 miniature little bulldogs - and a very pooped Christopher. Caine was the 1st puppy born. He was all white and somehow upon instinct Christopher knew he had to help Lola so he put the baby in his palm & began breathing life into him. I'll always regret not being awake to see that adorable site. So throughout that day Lola gave birth to 13 beautiful puppies and the first born all-white male Christopher had always longed for was born.
So Caine is here! - Max is not at all thrilled....
Sadly, Max was not very happy about the whole situation. He had no interest in his pups and would actually appear to be frustrated every time he was near them. We eventually sold all the pups except for Caine & all a brindle female named Jumper. At just a few weeks old Jumper would literally try and jump to a bag of puppy food sitting on the kitchen counter- hence the name. So the puppies began getting older and Max continued to develop this hostility, particularly towards Caine. One day we left them all in the yard to play. We heard Caine & Max barking viscously at eachother & luckily caught them in the act of nearly tearing eachother's faces off. Caine still has the scars on his face and from that day forward Max & Caine were not allowed to be in any close proximity. It's moving time...
So eventually we moved out of Christopher's parent's house into a house of our own. We knew we could only handle 1 dog between both our work and school schedules so of course Caine came with us. We've lived there for 2 1/2 years now & Caine is the best dog I could have ever dreamed for. He's an angel of a dog, always so sweet to everyone. He loves to cuddle with us on the couch and sneaks into our bed every nite (even though he has his own great doggy bed). He is particularly smitten with Christopher. If he is ever away he sits at the window sill for hours waiting for him to come home. He loves me too of course 'cause I'm his mom and he knows I'm the one that he can always come to for love and a snack. He's so obedient, although he does have his bratty moments. He's really a regular person (at least he thinks he is), he's just a little more drooly. None
