Who is Calendars Blog: How I stay organized

This lens was started as part of the Giant Squid challenge here on squidoo. The idea is that you get to know me a bit better.
1) I have two calendars - how about you?
I have two calendars at my home. One wall calendar I use for keeping track of groceries, remembering what date it is and appointments. The other is a loose leafed dated organizer. I use it for on the road note taking, appointments, information on my tutoring clients and long term planning.
2) Digital sticky notes
I'm serious. I started using these when I had Ubuntu Linux installed on my pc. Now I'm back on windows, but I've taken my sticky note habit with me. My only complaint: they're too pretty on windows. The font is too large: there isn't enough room...
3) Online homepage - protopage
I really don't know how I would survive using several pc's regularly without my online homepage. Unlike google and yahoo's versions, protopage gives you complete freedom. I have 3 tabs I use regularly, with lists of links and notes. But there is an infinite amount of potential tabs and I have 11. Many of them are testimony to a time when my online life looked very different from today.
Still, this is where I keep notes when I'm doing online research for long term projects. Or where I keep links I think I will surely be using sometime in the next year.
Unfortunately, protopage has been loosing some of the information I put there, so I'm on the look out for a replacement service.
Twitter buzz on getting organized
4) Keeping track of online accounts...
Should I even be sharing this online? I keep track of my online accounts in one simple, but long, excel file. Simple but effective. The only problem... It keeps growing.
And yes, of course it's password protected.
5) A notebook for business notes
There is something about pen to paper. I keep track of my hours for web design clients in a simple black notebook. It includes my notes about what I did that day, so it is easy to justify my hours when I have to.
6) Setting goals: be specific
For my online business I have only one specific goal, but it is very specific indeed: write one spiritual blogpost a week.
Less specific goals are expanding my online presence: growing traffic, sales and links.
7) To do lists
My way to keep to do lists is even simpler. I take a piece of paper from the printer and jot down a list of what needs to be done. I cross out what no longer works. Also, for projects like this lens I make notes on there so that by the time I get to making the lens it's very quick.

Since I bought an iPad I've been keeping track of these in the 'things' app. A real life saver.
8) Taking a break from the internet, sort of
A lot of my life is online, but every once in a while I forget about twitter, I refuse to read my email, I don't check my statistics... Sometimes it's because I just got myself a great book to read. Sometimes because the creative juices are flowing. Sometimes simply because it feels right.
Being connected is great, but it should not become a chore. You can be more efficient if you don't keep track of every little thing on twitter, facebook etc.
9) On squidoo...
I have three lensmaster accounts. I keep organized here by using dashboard labels and lensographies. Dashboard labels help me keep track of similar lenses. Lensographies are a great way to group lenses together.

10) Not everything is planned
Usually I let my to-do list just lie on my desk and let my creative juices flow. Based on my online stats, some inspiration, something I sold online, a new book... Almost anything can set me going and I won't stop till I've finished it.

- In reading through your organization tips, I am realizing that I am more organized than I though. Of course I have a few extra calendars, for the girls activities and for my courses. I used Google tasks in Gmail (which is always open) for awhile, but still find the written "To Do" lists to be the most helpful. I need to make a document (Google doc) to keep track of my online accounts. Thanks for all of the great advice.

- lol...every time I think right i need to get organised, i spend a day going through everything, right down to having the school dinners planned, then as you say the creative juices get going and I forget all about keeping it all upto date, I need a cleaner, butler and a PA. But seriously great tips, that I hope to implement some. I have too many plain word docs. just sitting there, with codes, etc on it.nightmare to find
