The "NEW" Cowgirls of Country

Over the past several years, tuning into a 25 and under female singer/songwriter on American Country Music channels worldwide has become a much more frequent occurrence. After Carrie Underwood took the sought after title of American Idol, her career has exploded into a whirlwind of #1 hits thus starting the onslaught. Also following are an ever growing population of young female artists. Odds are, if you turn on the local country channel on your radio, Taylor Swift will likely be burning the picture of some redneck heartbreak, Ashton Shepherd will be taking off the pain, Kelly Pickler will be thinking of something men don't, or Miranda Lambert will be telling you all about what little girls are made of...gunpowder and lead.

Not surprisingly, the Pop culture genre has embraced country talents more frequently pushing them to a much greater exposure then their predecessors. Taylor swift, whose family moved to Nashville, TN when she was only 13 to pursue her dreams of country stardom has now gone triple platinum and has 4 #1 singles from her self titled debut album bagging the New Female Artist of the year award from the Academy of Country Music.

It is truly a blessing to see this revolution "take stage" so to speak. These women are bringing more to the table then the obvious. They have all demonstrated strong moral value that can only have a profoundly positive impression on the "tweens", teens and young woman that are looking up to them. While Miranda Lambert sings about some very grown up issues, she provides strength and perseverance to woman everywhere while still being the same small town girl she has always been. Ashton Shepherd received much unexpected borage of praise from seasoned country artists on After Midnite w/ Blair Garner's Post ACM Award show broadcast. Jewel, who is now finding her way along country roads, made sure to give Ashton her due before answering any of Blair's question's.

Lately, young females in the spotlight have inadvertently played a devastating role in tainting young females nationwide. These new artists are rising above the typical Paris Hilton's and Britney Spears' and showing us that it is possible to be famous, and a role model all at the same time.

I am dubbing this segment of time in the infinite string of music as "The Calfgirl Revolution". Young female artist's in country music that are cowgirls at heart, but still young role models for our impressionable youth. Thank you for your strength to do the right thing. Let's hope that this kind of behavior becomes infectious in Hollywood.
