Ponds vs Pondless - The debate for Calgary Homeowners
Do you live in Calgary Alberta? Have you ever thought about getting a pond or waterfall?
There is something magical about the soothing sound of fresh water trickling over spill stones and winding its way through your very own Calgary Pond or Waterfall.....
Ponds and waterfalls have been built for hundreds of years, only recently has the technology started to change so that it is cost effective for anyone to enjoy, especially in Calgary. I don't think I have ever met somebody who doesn't like the sound of running water that a pond can provide.
Why doesn't every one in Calgary have a watergarden or pond or waterfall?
Watergardening is an art and a passion in which people who have had a good experience will never again own a house without a pond or waterfall. Our goal is to show the people of Calgary what an amazing experience having a pond or waterfall can be.
Calgary Homeowners must decide on a ponds or waterfalls depending on their expectations and needs. Understanding your own personality and what you want out of your feature is essential to having a successful project.
Two of the most popular water additions to the garden in for people in Calgary is a full blown pond, as well as a pond less waterfall.
Pond vs Pondless. What is best for the Calgary, Alberta region?
Ponds are great but have a bit of a bad reputation. People associate them with maintenance. A properly balanced pond should be a little maintenance, but not much if one finds the right balance for their system.
The main reason why a pond is better than a pondless waterfall is a simple word: Ecosystem. By having a balanced pond in your yard, one will create a ripe ground for all kinds of fish, birds, insects and plants. You would be amazed what kind of a natural paradise you can create in Calgary.
What is better than the sound of water combined with a community of daily visitors from nature who live and thrive off of your creation in your backyard living space? Isn't that why we build ponds and waterfalls anyways? I like to get in touch with nature, our source of everything we need to survive.
The only draw back is the 'little' maintenance part. This is the part where you have to figure yourself out to see if you are a good fit for a pond. It isn't hard work that makes your pond successful, it is understanding of your system. It can be an experiment to get your watergarden where you want to be as every climate is different, thereby making every microecosystem different. A pond is like a fine wine, it ages with time, as you establish this system. As time goes on, the pond requires less attention.
Secondly, if you have kids, you may not want a pond due to the fact that there is water that is generally two to three feet deep (good even for Calgary winters)............what to do?
Get a pondless waterfall! A pondless waterfall can be built so that the water is never more than 1 to 2 inches of water depth, making it safe for you one's while allowing one to enjoy the cool sound of running water.
As well, you don't have to worry about finding that right balance in your ecosystem as the constant running water prevents algae issues, for the most part. It is generally the waterfall part of any watergarden that people find the most beautiful anyways.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and decide on the option that will serve you, your family and your existing space in the most beneficial way possible
