Calico Jack lets women join his crew

In 1717 Rackham, now called Calico Jack, smuggled is girlfriend Anne Bonny aboard his ship disguising her as a man.

Soon another female pirate, Mary Read would join his crew.

This was almost unheard of at the time. Women were considered to be bad luck on a ship.

Having a woman passenger was bad enough. No captain in his right mind would let a female join his crew!

But John Rackham did.

I'm doing a research paper on "Calico" Jack Rackham. This is interesting information. If Jack hadn't been drunk on his ship, we wouldn't needed to be "hanged like a dog".

Calico Jack is portrayed as a Gallant Buccaneer but ultimately in the end he was a coward who hid below deck while his women fought his battle for him. Anne Bonneys last words to Jack are still infamous. While still in prison awaiting his sentence to be carried out he was allowed one last visit with Anne who looked at him and said, "I'm truly sorry to see you here Jack, for if you had fought like a man you wouldnt need to be hung like a dog." "Do straighten yourself up."
