I wonder if Arnold Schwarzenegger ever imagined while filming "The Terminator" on the dilapidated grounds of the old Kaiser Steel factory that he would one day return there. Not for a sequel to the movie -- indeed, not even as an actor. But that he would be the Governor of the state, and the Kaiser site would no longer be a movie set, but a fantastic 2 mile track for NASCAR?

A Brief History Of California Speedway
California Speedway On Wikipedia
The California Speedway is a two-mile, low-banked, D-shaped oval superspeedway in Fontana, California, similar to that of "sister track" Michigan International Speedway.The track is located on the site of the former Kaiser Steel mill. It is a relatively new race track, opening in early 1997, and has additional configurations and facilities to accommodate "road" races, motorcycle races, vehicle testing, and drag races (Auto Club Dragway). The racetrack is a stone's throw from the old Ontario Motor Speedway and the old Riverside International Raceway. After Riverside's closure in 1988, Southern California did not host a NASCAR race until California Speedway was opened. In addition to NASCAR, the raceway has also hosted open-wheel events from both CART and the Indy Racing League.
