A travellers view on Callao Salvaje Tenerife - where to stay and what to do

Callao Salvaje is a lovely area situated in Costa Adeje on the South Coast of Tenerife. Its warm all year round and really hot during the summer months. There is a lot to do in and around the area and the town is situated right on the beach.

I'd highly recommend Callao Salvaje for a really nice family holiday with plenty of restful days by the pool, trips to the beach and day trips out.

More about Callao Salvaje Tenerife

I've been to Callao Salvaje numerous times and at different stages of my life. I've always found it to be a nice, friendly, warm, enjoyable place to stay.

Its right on the coast to so there are plenty of beautiful beaches where you can laze away your days and recover from all the stress of modern living.

There are some really great places to stay including the Tropical Park Resort (pictured right) which is set back about 500m from the beach and has great views over the sea. This resort is split across 2 levels with 2 pools, bars, a restaurant, a poolside restaurant, nightclub bar, tennis court, spa and much more. There is an activity group to keep children occupied with fun activities so that they get to do different things rather than just sitting by the pool and swimming.

I've stayed there on 2 separate occasions, once as a child (and yes, I did join the activity group) and once as a teenager and I throughly enjoyed my stay both times. I went with my family which is why I think that Callao Salvaje is a great family holiday area.

There are lots of nice restaurants and places to eat in the area so if you are on a self catering holiday there is loads of choice from pizzas to traditional Spansh cuisine and a few chinese restaurants if you fancy a change.

Callao Salvaje is very popular with travellers from the UK, France, Spain and Germany. Increasingly, more Americans are choosing it as a holiday destination.

5 Great day trips for Callao Salvaje Tenerife

Everyone loves a nice day out :)

There is a lot to do when you visit Tenerife, here are 5 great things to do which are suitable for all ages:

1) Get wet at the Aqua Park! There are loads of slide and fun rides at Aquapark Octopus Tenerife. Its fun for the whole family and just over 10mins by car from Callao Salvaje.

2) Take a trip on one of the many dolphin boats. There are loads of different boats where you can take a 1/2 day trip and stay out on the waves for the afternoon. You will usually see playful dolphins and whales swimming along side the boats. The boat trips are catered and there are typically salads, rice, paella and baguettes available together with a free drinks so it is also very economical.

3) Visit Loro Parque located in Puerto de la Cruz which is in the North of Tenerife. This animal park is the "must see" in the Canary Islands. They have dolphins, whales, sea lions, parrots, penguins and more to see. You can usually get a day excursion which includes travel by bus. This will take roughly 2 hours to get to from Callao Salvaje. The coaches I've been on are always large and comfortable and I don't find the travelling a problem. Alternatively, if you have a very young family its probably worth renting a car and driving up there yourself.

4) Go Karting! Tenerife has a huge go kart track and you can race against the rest of your family and friends. I can't remember the lower age limit but I feel this is more of an activity for families with teenagers rather than young children. That said, there is a restaurant and viewing area on site so one of your party could look after the children if needs be.

5) Have another splashing day at the Siam Park water adventure kingdom. This has been described as the most spectacular water park in the whole of Europe. This is a very new attraction and only opened its doors in 2008. Again this is not far from Callao Salvaje and its got to be on the list of great days out for you and your party.

Hopefully these suggestions will be of some use when you are planning you trip to Callao Salvaje.
