Fast, Free way for Artists to Get Noticed!

Would you like to know how to get more exposure for your art?

And for Free or LOW cost?

I have a idea that is working for my art Etsy Team, and you can use it too. I even saw a large article of a town in Washington State that was doing this also.

As you know, a lot of towns across the USA are hit bad with economy woes. This means that a lot of downtown shops have closed up and have "FOR RENT" in the windows. Bare, vacant and cold.

But, What if all the artists in every town, where to group in little groups or as individuals, and approach these store owners looking for tenants. Offering them to do a nice display for them free of charge. At least until they rent the store. Can you imagine the possibilities?

Great news! We got a grant!

One adult and one child with money from Etsy Grant for our Adopt a Window Program! We applied and were accepted for a small grant from ETSY to buy some mannequins. So we now are gearing up to do a new window on the 19th of october 2010. We did not do any this summer due to the death of one of our dear members, Kathleen Bush. But, now we are doing the Green spot again! Here is a photo of one of the new models to put our hand made products on. Will be putting up lots of new photos of our new display soon!

Photo Gallery of Past window Designs

Here is How to Start

Photo is of one of our window displays in Coos Bay Oregon

#1. Find some empty store locations with good visibility from cars and walkers.
#2. Write down as many as three to start calling
#3. Prepare a plan of what exactly you would do for that particular window display
a. color, theme and products
b. you might even sketch out the plan for the prospective owner to see
c. have details of how the items would change over time, who would handle the details of if a customer wants a item etc.
#4 Start calling those numbers and make apts to meet the owners with your plans all laid out.

Some Window Displays for the Green Spot

Done by the OCEAN Etsy Team

Photo by Nadine of Nadine and Kathleen's on EtsyWe started with the idea of a "secret" room in the corner. It has a cardboard fireplace ( which you cannot see to the right) that has tiny lights in it to simulate fire. The two lamps on the side table and a miniature tree beside it. Hanging above the table is a old wood window that we sprayed snow on the outside and put little christmas lights behind for effects. Throughout the scene are some of our products we made, and signs about our team, our Etsy addresses, contact info etc.

The outside of the secret room is the christmas tree spiral, more products all around. Fake snow of course, and tiny lights hanging in the rafters to mimick the stars at night.

This photo was taken by nadine Allen, a Etsy Artist of wonderful Greeting cards. She does photo cards in all kinds of themes. NOTE: Click on the photo to go see their shop!

And we used this opportunity to put up displays of our favorite charities. Like the "comfort doll program" where people make tiny dolls for the battered women's shelters.

Window Display Ideas

Another Idea for a current window is my Black Cat Jewelry Display

We are doing a fall theme on one store and I found that the foam board is great to make a display for my jewelry that will be in the window. Making characters like this cat or a large pumpkin.

Others my team members have made were a large mermaid, and once we did the white wood frames. These then all hang (see photo above) from the ceiling with each artist putting their products IN the frame! It turned out fantastic!

What a great idea! This is a fantastic way for artists and local property owners to come together and make a beautiful space. That makes the space more enticing for prospective tenants, and gives the artist free exposure!

Also, wanted to let you know that I followed this article from Handmade Spark-- saw your visual marketing plan (really great), then checked out your website, which took me here! You're working it! Wonderful, and all the best to you!
